Electronic shutter on EOS RP and no IBIS on low-end bodies

one last one before the demise of DPreview... sniff.

On the RP I can use the electronic shutter only in SCN 'sleeping baby' mode. If it has an electronic shutter(!) then presumably this is just a firmware restriction, and one that could be theoretically lifted if Canon chose to do so?

So, is it correct that Canon are using the firmware to restrict functionality on cameras that clearly have extra functionality, and do other brands do this for 'marketing' reasons?

It seems also slightly odd to offer IBIS only on 'premium level' bodies ie. not on the R8, as pretty much all the competition do offer IBIS on low end mirrorless full-frame models?

Are they using it to restrict lower end or to enhance higher end? 🤔

It is the odd duck being the only R body without a true e-shutter. Although you can work around it using a two shot focus bracket.

Then again, the RP has focus bracketing and the R doesn’t. So chalk it up to the random nature of product evolution?

For the RP: The sensor readout is so painfully slow they locked it into an auto mode to prevent severe rolling shutter in most applications. If it was openly available in all modes, people would complain about the rolling shutter to no end, so better to keep it in an "auto" mode and complain about that instead.

IBIS: If canon included IBIS in the R8, why would anyone buy the R6II? You have to create some sort of differentiation between bodies, both to save money and to give a few options to buyers. Personally, I never benefit from IBIS, subject motion comes into play before shaky hands do. Canons in lens stabilization is phenomenal, so budget bodies are more than effective with just IS and no IBIS. Additionally, I would imagine adding IBIS to cheaper bodies might end up causing some turmoil over shutter shock, as the dampening features found in bodies like the R5 add cost. In short, add features, increase the price.
