I bought a used RX10 IV from KEH and need a charging cable. I've searched the forum but haven't found the exact answer I'm looking for.

I've tried a Micro B cable (what most threads indicate is what I need) and while it charges and downloads photos, it doesn't seat itself very well. It only goes in halfway. I haven't tried forcing it in all the way because it feels like this is a far as it wants to go.

Is this normal?

I'm very pleased with my purchase from KEH, by the way. It was listed as Excellent (the fifth tier of eight in their grading system but I can't distinguish it from a brand new camera.

Here's an example of the Micro B cable I'm currently using.

Sony is using a special "mult termainal" with more contacts. My original Sony charging cable for the RX100-iii is using a standard usb layout. So assuming you can use common standard usb cables. Only a hint, no garantee, perhaps other users can confirm.

Yes, that's fine. If it works then it's in far enough.

Any good USB cable will work. The problem is some cable makers use trash connectors. A good connector should need a bit of gentle force to seat the connector. If the fit's sloppy or loose, toss the cable.

Also, some cables only have the power leads, not the data leads. If you can't transfer data but there's power to the camera, there's the explanation. Toss the cable - it'll only confuse you.

. . . it'll only confuse you.
Well, I'm no stranger to confusion.

My micro B USB cable does charge and transfer photos, but it's not the 10 pin Sony connector shown in Ulop's photo. Consequently, it doesn't fully seat in the slot. But it sounds like most of you are using the simple 5 pin Micro B connector like mine with no issues.

I'll only be using that cable occasionally for charging or transferring photos. For the most part I'll be using an external battery charger and card reader.

So I guess I'll just quit trying to find that 10 pin Sony USB cable and move on.

Yeah, forget the Sony cable.

I do all of my downloads via USB cable. It's quick (even at several Gb), and doesn't mess with the SD card socket. Maybe it's uninformed paranoia, but I figure the microUSB socket is more robust than the SD socket.
