Thought I would post an image I had just uploaded for a challenge. Taken with the 14/2.8 lens, I sold as I thought I would find the Viltrox 13/1.4 more useful. It possibly is, but for this type of photography I think the 14/2.8 in particular considering the size and weight, not a bad lens.

Might go back some day with the 13/1.4 ... but not expecting much of a difference. Always good fun, but also a challenge to shoot something that has only been shot a few million times ;-)

Lovely photo.

I have the 14mm/2.8 and absolutely love it. I find that for any given picture settings on any of my Fuji cameras, the colours from the 14mm are always more subtle and restful than any of my other lenses.

Lovely soft tones there Deed ... what time of day was it ?

Gave me good memories of a trip I made with my daughter there in March 2005. I was using an Olympus E330 at the time, and arrived late in the day when tourists were still in abundance … I worked close to the boulders, again with a wide angle from memory, to capture their almost alien-like quality, glowing in the evening light …

Thank for the note by the way, much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Nice one.

I love my 14. It’s sharp, distortion free, and wide without being too wide. It’s a near perfect lens.

Nice pic too!

Thanks. I think it was taken at the most unfortunate time of day, I had left Tekapo around 9 and went via Oamaru, to Dunedin so it must have been around 1pm. I don't pay enough attention to the date settings and they could have still been set for another time zone? But sound about right as I visited the steam punk place in Oamaru before and must have stayed there for 2 hours?? Dunno for sure, but it was neither sunrise nor sunset. ;-)

Killer shot, Deed. Love it.

Thanks Jerry, did you make it there? I only found those RAWs yesterday, locked up at home as the whole North is in the firm grip of Gabrielle, a cyclone racing across the South Pacific. We're also sandbagged-up but haven't experienced any damage yet. Not everybody here in NZ was so lucky, there are evacuation centres open everywhere, tens of thousands of households without power and then 9 metre swells at the coast. The worst hits we had at night time. So in sort: sorting out undevelopped RAWs feels a little bit like a mini-denial, but what can you do, but wait ...

You're most welcome. Alas, we did not make it there during that amazing trip a few years back, and in retrospect, I'm sure wishing we had. Sorry that you're caught up in some very bad weather and I very much hope that things settle out quickly, power is restored in short order, and that the damage is minimal. I'd love a second try and return to Oz and NZ, but traveling there is extremely lengthy and expensive, plus the "joys" of aging are beginning to restrict our travels to areas significantly closer.

Thanks Jerry, next time, pop in? Life is short you know??

The cyclone will possibly be over tomorrow. For now. But the repairs will take months and sometimes years to fix. I know it's off topic and won't expand on this, but have a look at this, Titirangi, Auckland:

Not the same spot ... and how do you fix that??

Again: won't expand but this is/was a serious affair.

Ugh, so sorry… that looks just awful. Hope it gets sorted out ASAP. I’m sure climate change had nothing to do with it. :-)

[just a little lame attempt at humor… not intended to spark a lively discussion on climate change]. And hope we might have one more opportunity to head your way. I have nothing but the fondest memories of our visit there years ago.
