First lens: XF 35mm f2 or Sigma 30mm?

i have had both. Both are excellent.

fuji 35mm- great for landscape and outdoor portraits, can be a bit too long indoors focus is fast and silent

sigma 30mm - great for indoor shots /portraits. Landscape is ok, except for bright backgrounds of trees for example-you will see lots of chromatic aberrations. Focus is fast and silent. Bigger, but still light.

both can be great choices

"lots of chromatic aberrations"

A useful warning, it would make it out of the question for me.

Is that at all apertures or is there an aperture where it cleans up?

The f/2 fujicrons are all great. The 35mm f/2 has my vote.

of course, it’s up to you. Good luck!

fwiw, I only like to use native lenses, so I’m biased.

Of course, but I know from experience that what I take would make that flaw really intrusive.

Hi everyone! I just bought my first Fuji, the X-T5. I’m coming from the Canon M-series. I had the Sigma 16mm and 56mm for the Canon mount and loved them.

For a Fujifilm noob, which do you think is the better lens to buy, Fujifilm 35mm f2 or Sigma 30mm? I’m comparing these two because they’re similar and price and I’m constricted by price and cannot splurge more.

I can’t seem to find a lot of comparisons between the two. The Sigma is always compared to the 1.4 version of the Fuji.

My initial thoughts:

Fuji - smaller, better colors?, better construction (metal) and weather-sealing, aperture ring

Sigma - brighter/faster, cheaper (but not by much)

Any thoughts? What would you buy and use?
The XF 35f2. It has an f-stop ring.

The 'old' XF35 1.4 has legions of loyal fans, but even most of them will admit it's not the fastest or most accurate focusing lens. $500 - 600 seems a lot for this lens in 2023.
With your X-T5, I don't think you're going to notice that much difference in focusing speed with the 35/1.4. And you'll probably only notice the difference in accuracy when you're doing low light photography.

Well the Sigma is a lot cheaper than the Fuji 35mm f1.4, in the UK its about a £200 saving.

The 30mm would give you a slightly wider field of view as well, sometimes quite important.

This Sigma is one of a trio of lenses that are all highly regarded, I would have no quarms in using them.

There is also an XC version of the 35mm f2, opically the same (some say) pretty basic but half the price of the 35mm f2.

  • Hi, sorry to reply to an old post, hope to be informative. I purchased an XE2 for fun alongside my Canon and using all my Canin and Sigma lenses with KF Concept AF adapter. AF speed is decent, depending on lens. I can enjoy Fujifilm colours on the budget, my 200$ (used market) Sigma Art 30mm f1.4 is stellar. I am using only adapted lenses for my Sony also, native Sony and Fujifilm lenses are quite pricey. For amateur use I will be keeping my sweet Sigma Art lenses and use them on Canon, Sony and Fujifilm, bypassing manufacturers lockin.
