Without tweaking with settings etc. I've compared old scratched photo restoration with PS Neural Filter and MyHeritage engine. Seems, for this purpose is better use PS, annual PS Photography Plan via Amazon is 2 times cheaper.. MyHeritage subscription is at least two times more expensive. See for yourself and judge.

My try. Using the good old PS brute strength and awkward technique.

Nice done. :) Really I'm lazy. I will show, how both engines can do restoration automatically without manual postwork, all pictures are "as is".

Excellent work Jack

Especially like how you created the left hand detail as we view...

I think AI does a fantastic job but sometimes the personal touch comes out top....well done...

Thank you Elivarz for this excellent comparison..

Each seem to have their benefits etc and it is great to see how you have shown them here for comparison...a great help for us when deciding which might be the best if we were to use AI.

Thanks

Ray

Thanks a lot, Ray, for nice comment. BTW - did you get Lucis to work?

I can see you tried to beautify the result, but it now looks like some other person. I wonder if the subject would even recognize herself.

Thanks Ray. Can always count on you for encouragement and good feelings.

Ran the photo through Topaz Photo AI to upscale, denoise and sharpen and then PS Neural to deal with the scratches. Provides an excellent starting point for further manual work

NIce work! It's strange that, unlike MyHeritage, Photoshop doesn't deal with the scratch on the left side of the photo near the ear. And maybe Topaz gives a bit of that plastic effect. It is interesting that the lips have already turned red.

Can you describe a little how you edited that? It's a bit too edited for what I like to do but it looks like a milder version of that edit would be great (I've done it a couple even as work but always looking for more methods, and most people here don't want it that smooth). Even with the AIs now I have to do a lot manually (I use mostly Photoshop). Thanks.

Can you explain a bit about how you did it? Anything automatic? What manual programs/tools, etc?

It's a little too strong and "painting-like" for what I try to do but a good direction.

Thank you
