God the D5 is amazing. Where do i start? From the best build I have seen on a camera (yes, I have built the D3 as well) to the af, buffer, snr. Its just so amazing. I got usbale results at ISO 18000 and underexposing a stop. I cannot stress enough how great it is. Its even quiet for a flagship dslr. It even does very well with my 24

1. Except for the D6, what could it not be competitive against?

And

2. How does this turn into 5.0? Calculates out to just better than 3.5 to me.

A Canon G5 and a bit of Nikon gear.

Good point about the D6. As for the 5., you have to remember what the camera is. Its built for speed, build, and high ISO performance. You cant expect it to perform like a D850 for landscape, studio, portraiture. For what the D5 is for me, it gets an easy 5.0

I believe TO is saying your math does not add up. If it is a 5 in your mind, why are four out of seven uses only 3 in your evaluation? And is only rated 4 for another? Why did you mark the camera as a 5 if you found it only a 5 for two uses?

I agree with TO -- if you are using the 7 use categories, then it cannot be a 5 unless all seven categories are rated 5.

Perhaps you only meant to say you think it is top notch for only action and low light photography?

The D5 is a 5 for sure. I wouldn't have ever parted with my D5 if I hadn't been just a little bit foolish and bought the D6 when it was available as a refurb. But the D5 is right up there and if I still had it I'd be as happy as clam. I treat my D6 as if it were a D850 and I'm not afraid to use it for landscape in pinch. But, man, for everything else nothing compares.

Your last sentence is exactly what i have been saying...

I see you have a D810 and a Z7 as well, do you use those for landscape mainly?

I just got rid of the D810. I use the Z7 almost exclusively for landscape these days, and often when the wind permits, with focus-shift and stacking. Originally i bought a Z7 when it first came out, and didn't like the EVF at all and promptly returned it and bought a D850. When I first had the D850, I kept asking myself if it could possibly take a bad photo. Eventually I gave into the mirrorless craze and do enjoy shooting the Z bodies for various things, but if I'm going to shoot wildlife and BIF, it's now always the D6. Not a lot of difference from the D5.

Here's one example of focus-shift; you'll note that everything is in focus from the foreground to the farthest background.

Oh, I have to add that one feature the D6 has that is lacking on the D5 is focus-shift and that's why I feel it has great potential for landscape. Nikon clearly didn't add it for fast action shooting.

That's fine. I understand what you're doing. I also understand that you are wrong. You just don't know how to put it in numbers.

It's illogical to add up a bunch of threes and a four, sprinkle in two fives and average it out to 5.0

I don't want this to become the new Math.
