Hi,

Recently, I got a Hasselblad XH adapter for my X1D and HC 150mm lens.

However, while photographing mountains, I noticed solid light leaks on one side of the image rendering the images useless. As I suspected, covering the adapter connection with the lens with my hand solved it.

The lens and adapter seem visually flawless and lock nicely together.

I'm shocked that the Hasselblad build quality using an XH adapter could result in such strong light leaks. With a brief google search, I only found one similar mention on the Hasselblad forum without any reaction.

Is this a common problem with the Hasselblad XH adapter, or does it point to a defect on this particular piece?

Cheers,

I use the XH adapter regularly without problems. I have heard about people with the new X2D occasionally having a little play in the lens connection but never heard of light leaks. Is there any damage to the weather seal?

thanks for the info, no visible damage, both adapter and lens look rather pristine.

And of course nothing on the camera, which works perfectly with my X lenses

Did you use strong ND filters and photograph in bright daylight?

I had the same problem with the X1D and the XH adapter. At the time, it didn't seem to be a common problem. My solution was to use a rubber band to cover the junction of the adapter and camera mount. Eventually, I sent the adapter back to Hasselblad for repair.

No ND filter whatsoever, normal shooting, yes, sunny day. Nevertheless, it should not leak light in any conditions.

I guess I should send it back :(

oh, the rubber band is a good tip. Thanks!

I was thinking about putting a neoprene lenscoat over it.

But still, you don't buy Hasselblad to be fixing things like this. I think I should send it back. What strikes me is that the adapter and lens look flawless. I will do some more tests to see if I'll be able to localize the exact spot where it leaks.

So did they repair it in the end? No light leaks since?

Yep, it was repaired and had no light leaks after repair.

It makes sense to get a replacement.

P.S.: When shooting long exposures in bright light (strong ND filter), there is always a possibility of slight light leaks, which is why the camera should have an extra cover to prevent it. However, that is only with long exposure in very strong ambient light.

Perfect! Thank you for this feedback. I'll send mine for repair too.
