Very nice.

Found an excellent deal on a used Panasonic 70-200 f/2.8 and sold off the 70-200 f/4 lens this past week. With winter it's tough to use outdoors, but for indoors what better way than my son's Christmas orchestra concert.

Very nice shot.

Are you using the Canon EF version of the lens? If so, which adapter are you using it with and how well does it perform on your S1R?

Sigma fp L with TTartisan 50mm F1.4 lens set to F8, with K2 (yellow) filter on front. Downsized to 1/16 of original pixels.

PS I'm still working on the colors, hope to get the green out of the street.

Interesting Tom, but why take a (colour) picture of the stairway to a porn shop with a yellow filter on the lens? Genuine question!

When a sensor is built there is a basic calibration that sets up the color rendering. Inserting a colored filter puts a monkey wrench into that color rendering process. Removing the effect of the filter from the image does not get us back to the original. It might get us close, but not quite all the way back.

Sort of like playing with the color balance after the fact, in post processing, but kind of backwards. It's like a box of chocolates: you never know what you are going to get.

Bottom line, it can be an amusing experiment. Pointless to most, too.

Sometimes you can use an Expodisc and get a valid custom white balance when the colored filter is not too strong. Other times, not. Sometimes, when the filter is relatively weak, the camera can take a valid auto white balance. I have an interesting filter on order, can't wait to try it with auto white balance.

This particular shot was done without taking a custom white balance. I attempted to remove the filter effect in Sigma SPP (the Sigma DNG processor) and again in Photoshop Elements 2020. It still looks like something has gone wrong with the film development, like maybe one of the chemicals was spent, but of course there is no film development going on.

PS here's another, taken the same day.

Here are some out of camera JPGs taken this evening in Padua, Italy with a Lumix S5 and a 18mm F/1.8. I hope they will help forum participants decide whether such a combo would be good for them

I have been debating about getting the 24-105 lens. You convinced me. Thanks for your expensive post.

LOL you are welcome. It's a great "walk around" landscape lens, for sure.
