I just found a good used EM5.2, described by the seller as minor cosmetic wear but with a faulty on/off switch (lots of discussions in another thread here). The shutter count is below 2000.

However, the best thing about this deal imo is that it comes with a 12-40 Pro, very slightly cosmetic wear on the zoom barrel but otherwise in an excellent condition.

They come with no box, 1 genuine batt, 3rd party charger and no lens hood.

All for roughly converted to approx. USD of $390

1. Should I buy them?

2. Can I keep the camera on while travelling as it should turn itself into a standby mode during idle and remove battery at the hotel to switch it off?

Note that I already have a Pen-F and a GM5 but really hesitate to use them regularly as they are becoming collectible.

$390 is a good price for 12-40 alone.

Buy for lens. See if someone can repair camera. Sell or use. Profit.

I have ordered it.

Thank you very much, lovely people.

I think you got a bargain just for the lens.

You can always remove the battery for longer breaks, instead of repairing the switch.....

or selling the camera for parts, and use the proceeds towards another used body....

or if you are handy, here is how you get to the switch, the problem is usually water: https://www.mu-43.com/threads/e-m5-ii-stuck-switch-won’t-power-off.107895/
Thanks for the link. I think I can live with battery in/out option.

In that case, you could buy a very cheap BLN-1 dummy battery. It is an empty battery case, with a cable coming out at the bottom. You can feed that through a slot you cut into the camera battery door (Many Panasonic camera come prepared for that, but not Olympus). The cable plugs into an external power supply or you can add a homemade battery pack. There are many models on the market, here is one:

$24.99 at ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/393963937876

You simply plug the USB connector into a common USB power bank (as used for phones, tablets etc). The box in the cable increases the USB voltage of 5V to to 8V-2A for the camera. It gives you nearly unlimited battery operation time too. Since your Pen-F uses the same BLN1 battery, you can use this for it too.

The only downsides are, you have a cable dangling from the camera and loose the camera's weather protection :) .

If short on money, it surely beats paying $300 to have your camera switch repaired!

Thank you for this idea as I had never heard of it. This should work in a studio setting, but I don't think it's OK for me to carry around the entire setup while travelling overseas.

I'll test it out with battery in/out method first and see if I can travel with it.

It will be interesting to see whether the battery in-out works. Apart from the battery door latch being a potential failure point, if the camera switches on at all, adjust it so that the sleep mode doesn’t turn the camera off after a period. If it does that it would require the main switch to work.

Best workaround from my perspective would be to allocate the on/off switch to the lever surrounding the AEL/AFL button. This is easily done in the menu system and many people prefer it because it is then on the right hand side of the body.
