I’m not into wildlife or fast action photography so don’t need sophisticated, advanced focus capabilities or high shutter burst rates in a camera. I am mostly a stills photography who doesn’t care much for video either. So, I content myself with a D3500 and the excellent AF-P 18-55 VR and AF-P DX VR 70-300 lenses. I am very happy with this set up. It light weight and excellent ergonomics suit me well.

Recently I decided to add a second camera and purchased a D80 and AF-S 18-105 both in mint condition and boy are they fun to use. I like the heft of the D80, the viewfinder and button configurability over that of the D3500. The 18-105 has surprised me too delivering great quality and sharp images. I’ve taken a few autumn colour photos which I‘ve shared below. Comments welcome.

Super images of Bury - says much about the camera and the photographer.

PS: We don't get sunny days down south. 😊

Thank you for your kind comments. I am Bury St Edmunds born and bred and still live locally.

At we head towards year end I start to take less photos and prefer to carry my trusty Sony RX100 another amazing camera that has often travelled with me far and wide.

I have the original AF-S 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 without VR ,got it new with my D50

Still use it some times

lovely CCD colours :-)

"ccd colours" that's one of the reasons for getting this camera plus I am not really into video. For that I prefer to use my RX100. Depending how I get on with theD80/18-105 combo I may sell the D3500 and AF-P lenses.

Years ago I considered a D80. I never got one though ... wound up with a used D1 instead.

Later I bought a D200, which is very similar to the D80 and the D2x. The sensors on all three are very similar.

The D80 is noted for having a slightly quirky light meter ... "The meter tends to pay too much attention to the area directly under the chosen focus point, compared to the rest of the image."

I think that's just in Matrix mode though ... not certain.

I can speak from years of experience that the D200's sensor has superb color and other characteristics. It strongly filters out IR light, which I prefer. A bit noisy at 3200 though. But up to 800, it's fine. D80 I presume is the same way.

These older bodies can be had for a song. If you really want a kick in the pants, get a D2x. Don't get the D2h or D2hs as they pick up a bit of infrared.

The D2x is my favorite Nikon body ever. Beautiful colors and great microcontrast. Have had 2 along the years, sooner or later I'll buy it again.

I am thinking D1X actually. D200 is too sharp too clear

I never tried the D200, I have a D40x that, to my knowledge, should have the same sensor as the D60/D80/D200/D3000, and I like its colors quite a lot. It's more or less there with the D2x.

Great photos

where is this beautiful place might I ask?
Bury St Edmunds is in Suffolk, England it has a medieval centre with many fine historic buildings and a beautiful park for all to enjoy.

The D2x has a 12mp CMOS sensor while the D40/80/200 has a 10mp CCD. Not quite the same output.

The D200 and D2x are dang near identical in terms of IQ, noise, color.

That would be the first and only case where a 10mp CCD sensor produces identical images to a 12mp CMOS.
