Hi

My camera had a small bump and now my Sony A6500, as soon as I turn it on it says “Internal temp. high. Allow to cool down”

After about 15 seconds, the camera turns itself off.

I can’t do anything such as access the menu or do a hard reset.

Any ideas what I can do? The camera has been switched off without a battery for about an hour.

"Small bump" = I accidentally dropped it from 3 ft. OR "Small bump" = My camera bag was on the ground and toppled over, and my camera fell out. :)

Probably something got damaged but there's a setting on the last menu called Auto Pwr OFF Temp - set this to HIGH and see if it helps.

ILCE-6500 | Help Guide | Auto Pwr OFF Temp. (sony.net)

Open freezer and turn it on in there and hope for the best? Don't leave it in there!! But just open it up, leave the door open, put in camera while holding it and turn it on?

Or try removing battery - and use external USB power.

Is this a common issue with the A6500? Mine heats up when it's out in the daytime under sunny condition. It doesn't say it's over heated, but I can feel it on the camera surface. sometimes it just doesn't to auto focus,...

Have you set auto pwr. off to high? This could give you some more time before it powers off

Sounds like your “small bump” may have dislodged your camera’s heat sink. I would get it repaired before you do permanent damage to the camera.
