Picked up a used RX0 and having trouble getting the images off of it.

If I switch the RX0 on and then connect the iPad via USB, the RX0 says it’s in mass storage mode, but the iPad sees nothing.

If I remove the MicroSD card and put it in a reader (which is how I normally get photos from other cameras onto the iPad) it also sees nothing. Neither Lightroom nor Files think there’s a device attached. Note that the card in question worked perfectly fine before it was used in the RX0.

Wifi transfer doesn’t seem to transfer raw files.

Any ideas as to what’s going on?

(FWIW, iPad Air 4 with latest iOS. Works fine with every other SD card from every other camera.)

Not even any directory structure?

That's true of almost all Sony cameras.

Including Sony cameras?

Nope, nothing—the volume isn’t mounted at all.

No, this is my first Sony.

Tried a box-fresh card and it worked fine. I guess it just has a bit of a sulk with cards that have been in other cameras.

Looks like it’s behaving itself now, anyway. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to shoot with it tomorrow.

It's best to reformat a card in the camera. It then creates the right folder structure.

Yup, one of those things I’ve read many times, and is probably perfectly sound advice, but in over 20 years of digital cameras I’d never come across one that actually needed it 🙂

(Actually, even this time I didn’t format it with the camera—just stuck it in.)

I picked mine up open box a few months after it came out. Sorry - no Apple products here.

I love the RX0M2 more (has an actual level meter, closer focus distance, tilty/flippy screen). Slightly harder to hand hold with other things, and I have it setup in a 3D setup with another RX0M2, after learning about the cable to link them, Like this: https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/66356021

Anyways, I brought the RX0 out of retirement recently for fall colors. The Sunset/Autumn creative styles rock. I bump up +1,+1,0. Also best to learn that the infinity focus starts at the "3" or the next pixel underneath on the meter to the right. Trying to half press everything becomes a total PITA when you are generally shooting infinity anyways.

The Sony batteries are the real deal. The best. Hopefully you get a couple of those for those times you need full out battery life. (and the little nifty usb charging cases). With that said - I did pick up some Watson batteries - they are holding up "decently" in the RX0 for photos. (There's no in camera 4k/30, so it should be "okay" for the most part.). I originally bought them to keep the date/time in camera when not in use.
I shoot mostly Manual and keep ISO auto and low - 100-800/1600, and manually set shutter speed. DRO BRK HI.

Doesn't sound like you are a DxO PL5 user - there's a hack posted in the forum to get it to recognize the .ARWs.

These are simple microsoft default photo editor adjustments:

manual, iso 100 override

HDR merge/adjustment with Photomatix (free trial) - not sure if merging BRK DRO HI counts lol.
