Used the latest GoPro Labs firmware, which permits upping the bitrate to as high as 200 Mbps. I found that 200 Mbps worked, but occasionally the camera would lock up. At 180 Mbps no issues at all. I used a Sandisk Extreme card v30, same as the one GoPro provides free.

Lots of camera movement and subject movement, including music and dance, to stress the codec. But of course it is not a dirt bike on a trail...

How soon did the Hero 11 overheat? If it did. This software reminds me of the YI 4k and the firmware that allowed you to set much higher bitrates.

It never overheated. I had the camera powered on in the sun for three + hours. But my clips were never more than one-two minutes, mostly less than 20 seconds. In the binaural stereo video I posted, clips were much longer, but I also never experienced any overheating.

I have a pair of Hero 11's and a pair of Hero 10's. All running the latest Labs firmware from 14.9.22 I believe you refer to. I ran them in a VR configuration using 2 pairs each for stereoscopic filming.

All cameras ran at the 200Mbps setting. The Hero 11's at 10 bit color, 200Mbps and 4k 8:7 60fps with 256Gb Samsung v3 cards and the Hero 10's also with latest Labs and 200Mbps with the shipped 32Gb Sandisk v3 cards at 4k 4:3 and 60fps.

The Hero 11's ran for 2 1/2 hours during filming of a sunrize at 10 degrees Celsius until the 256Gb cards ran out of space.

The Hero 10's ran for about 35 minutes before running out of space. (200mbps eats up quite some space quick.)

I had overheating once using the Divecase on the hero 11 after 30 minutes at about 10 degrees Celsius.

Generally satisfied with the results. Never had to reduce the bitrate to less then 200Mbps.
