Well, at least that capitalizes the hallowed Merrill name ...

... and let's not ever call it what Sigma calls it, of course.

Well, you don't call the king Charles Philip Arthur George Mountbatten-Windsor each and every time, I guess. :)

I am well aware that my irritation with the Forum habit of re-naming Sigma camera models seems too much for some.

Now, where did put my s/d-9 ... :-)

Beautiful pictures. You captured the atmosphere and the colours perfectly.

Do you mind me asking, what colour balance was your camera set to? Forest colours seem to be challenging to get right. Did you tweak much in post?

Thanks,

Jan

Thank you. I am still in awe of the results... Not because I am such a good photographer (I am not), but because the camera/sensor is so good I cant believe I got these images/colors without any heavy post editing. When I tried to get similar results from my old D5000, those corrective curves that I came up with were.... something else.

I always keep "sunlight" color balance and rarely touch it in post. I suppose I like warmer colors and the way it resolves colors in that setting is more than good for me.

These were shot with iso 100-200, -1.3 .. -2.0 EV, standard color profile, sunlight WH balance, RAW.

Two main things I did to these images in post - slight reduction of contrast (couple of notches on some of the images, not really dramatic, but more like bringing it to from "nine" to "eleven", done right in SPP) and additional negative EV correction of maybe 0.1-0.5. I can look up actual original and correction values if you are really interested in specific images.

Then all the images were selected and Ctrl-S-ed into jpegs on full res, with jpeg quality of 9. That's it.

Nice "Seeing".......Light, Composition, Depth :-) , etc.......and I agree, nice camera. Gonna be sad when my DP Merrill "Quiver" stops working.

Your camera is a DP2 Merrill. There is no such thing as a dp2m ...
I mean, it is Boeing 767-300, but it is abbreviated B763 in all official docs and systems where having longer strings is not possible.

There is no other DP2M, other than the Sigma DP2 Merrill version, so I think for the sake of brevity we should be able to use DP2M, since it conveys exactly same meaning

"Merrill "Quiver" stops working"

Is there a known problem that kills Merrill Cameras long term? :-O

You know what, after seeing how well the camera "sees" colors and turns normal images into magic, I actually might un-ironically and nonsarcastically start calling it by its full name.

Not a "known" problem....I think a few here might have had a problem with the wheel around the shutter button not functioning properly, but as far as I know not a wide spread problem. Others who read/post more often than I do might have more info.

Enjoy the camera!

Makes me glad I don't work anywhere that deals with B763s including Boeing.

I used to work for Ruston Gas Turbines in England. They made and sold TB3000, TB4000, TB5000 and TB5400 models.

I suppose if a Customer ordered a flame can for a "TB" they'd magically get the right part.

This Forum allows free speech so no problem.

I used to like my dp models ... check my gear list ... ;-)

Thank you very much. The colours and contrast are perfect for the subject. I take many pictures on forest trails and I hope to try to replicate these great results.
