Hello guys,

I'm a long time Nikon user, and very pleased with my Nikon gear. I shoot always raw, and use DxO PL5 to process my images.

But I'm getting old, and I know 95% of my photos are taken when I'm riding, with my motorcycle or by car.

I have an Iphone X, not the latest smartphone. As it is, it's good enough for travel photos...except in some special conditions, like very strong highlights, since you cannot set exposure.

So, I've installed Lightroom for IOS, and I can now adjust exposure and other parameters before the shot. It's a good app, but with a huge limit for me: I can take dng pictures, but I cannot export them as dng on my computer.

So, my question is: do you know an app good enough to give some control on shooting parameters, and allowing to take and export dng files to a computer, in order to process them with DxO (or another software)?

Thanks

We’ll, I’ve just found how to export a dng file in its native format. It doesn’t work with gmail, but it works with the Apple mail app.

You can export in different formats from Lightroom Mobile. The bottom choice is “export as” and you can choose different formats.

Yes, I know. It's a 2 steps process. First, Lightroom "prepares" the file, and then, you have to choose the way to export. If you choose to export by mail, using gmail, it doesn't work. That's why I asked.

But I discovered that it works if you export using mail, the native app for Iphone.

So, it's OK.

Try Camerapixels app. It is a much better and more capable app than Lightroom mobile. And it saves the the dng files directly into the camera roll.

Thanks. Interesting. Do you use the pro or lite version?

I use the pro version. It is well worth the price, but the lite version also gives a good insight into the app. What I like most about this app compared to LR mobile is that you can define user settings, and tag them into the widget screen of iphone, it makes switching between different settings very easy. I am addind my widget screen as a reference

Thanks a lot. I'll buy the pro version: the lite version is too limited.

Your advice was very helpfull. Thanks again!

If you want control over the camera on an iPhone, both Halide and Camera+ 2 get good reviews, usually one or the other are the top recommendation. I have both on my iPhone.

Although they've now become subscription based, sadly. Halide is cheaper.

The results I get are very similar though. Both have options for shooting Raw, Raw+ combined JPEG, Raw+ separate JPEG. both can use HEIF or TIFF as options too. Both create a DNG Raw file.

However, there are also some articles suggesting that they don't actually produce any better images than the standard iPhone camera. Especially if you have a model that can shoot ProRaw. That's just something to consider.

Perhaps use a variety of the apps in trial mode, and do some testing, before you start parting with money. There are lots of them on the App Store.
