I've been using Canon DPP for a while but never really thought about "Output Resolution" and "Embed ICC profile" when exporting to JPEG. I always left them at default values - "Output Resolution" at 350 dpi and "Embed ICC profile" checked.

Now I am finally getting around to setting up online picture gallery and wondering if I need to change them. It doesn't seem to make any difference whether "Output Resolution" is set to 350 or 72 dpi - the file size is the same (using the same Image Quality) and they look exactly the same on the screen (it does show selected value in file properties). Same for "Embed ICC profile".

Any suggestions on what I should set them to when exporting to JPEG for online gallery? I own EOS RP if it matters.

The output resolution does not really make a difference since the pixel dimensions stay the same. Some software will use the information, e.g. when you import an image into a Photoshop file, it will scale the imported image according to its resolution to make it fit the resolution of the Photoshop file. But for your gallery it won‘t make a difference.

Embed ICC profile is important. I guess you export as sRGB for your online gallery? Most software would interpret images without embedded profile as sRGB, but not all. Notably Firefox in its default setting will not color manage the file without profile, which becomes an issue on wide gamut monitors with a profile larger than sRGB, on those Firefox will display oversaturated colors. More on this here .

In Lightroom export you have a choice of what space will be embedded as Lightroom works in Prophoto. For WEB display it should be sRGB.

In DPP there is no such choice. You set a workspace, but have no choice about what is embedded, when you convert and save. Have done a jpg convert and save and opened on Photoshop and the file has an embedded (Wide)Prophoto.

So I expect if you want to export for web with DPP, then your workspace has to be sRGB.

Actually not the case, the embedded is still Wide or Prophoto

So a puzzle, how to convert and save as sRGB in DPP.

Window properties says uncalibrated, and sRGB for Lightroom exports
