Aperture changes even in M mode with flash?

Yes I will set up mine in the same way as you, C1 button for brackets and not for Flash. I'm not sure I'm coordinated enough to press both buttons at once while holding an AD200 up for a shower pop!!

I've been shooting Sony for six years and have heard many people sing the praises of custom hold. For whatever reason, I've never really used it but I will use it for this application!!

Hey Brett! I'm glad this thread is still active because I am still stuck with figuring this out.

In my capturing process I would like to shoot the bracketed images first, then the flash pops second. I have my c1 recall hold button set to the 2-stop 3 bracket. I'm in aperture mode. my ad200 is turned off, and the new godox x3 receiver is still on attached to the hot shoe.

when I hold my custom c1 button then press the shutter, I am still not getting the camera to shoot the bracketed photo, it shoots a single image. it does work when I take the x3 godox receiver off the a7iv. WHAT IS HAPPENING, and what is wrong with the flash receiver that doesn't allow this to work?

I have tried both the new x3 godox receiver and the old godox xpro s receiver for the flash, and whenever it's connected to the camera it does not take the bracketed images. WHAT am I doing wrong! :(

You have to switch the trigger off and hold the C1 key in order to take the brackets. not need to physically remove it which is going to disturb your tripod, just toggle power on and off on the trigger.

This method works brilliant and is a god send for flambient shooters.

Thanks Brett!!

I will preface this by saying that my time with the X3 has been limited but as far as I can tell the X3 has to be completely powered down for the camera to shoot a continuous bracket. It can be attached to the camera but has to be powered off, not just paused. (For anyone not familiar with the x3 it is a digital Touch screen so it’s not just flick a switch to turn it on and off, it has to boot up and down.)

I love the x3, however, for the reason above I have been using my xpro or xpro II transmitter because you just have to flip the switch on the side of the transmitter to power it on and off instantly whereas the x3 takes a few moments to start up. Having said that, the size benefit of the x3 is very tempting. Hopefully at some point we’ll figure out a way around this.

Side note: Since you use aperture priority exposure mode the C1 custom button hack is unnecessary for you. If you are in Aperture priority mode, turning on the transmitter switches the camera to single shot mode anyway. Just have your drive mode set to brackets on the camera. The issue described here in this thread mainly deals with when using manual exposure mode.

So as not to confuse anyone, the below is only if using Aperture Priority exposure mode and the Godox x3 transmitter. Those using manual exposure mode can disregard the below and refer to my previous instruction steps.

1. Set camera drive mode to continuous brackets (the flavor of your choice.)

2. Turn on AD 200 (it can remain on the entirety of the photo shoot.)

3. Make sure X3 transmitter is installed on top of the camera, but completely shut down.
4. Set up your shot and take your bracketed shots as per normal

5. Power on the X3 transmitter and take your flash shots.

6. Profit

Thank you! This was the exact same problem I was having. I appreciate you following up with the explanation. All the best.
