Anyone building a CanonRaw converter for OSX?

I was wondering if anyone is building, knows someone who is building or has any information about a Mac OSX native Canon Raw converter. The utility Canon has provided it's customers with is nothing short of garbage, both inconvenient to use and impossible to fit into a photo workthrough. I'd love Adobe's new Raw plug-in but I hardly think it is worth the $700 investment for Photoshop 7.0.1 and Adobe Camera Raw.

I am hoping that some wonderful programmer out there is hard at work on a fast, furious Mac OSX native application for converting RAW. I'm sure there is money to be made with it, and I just want to know if I should hold my breath or just accept the awful fate of having to work with the File Viewer Utility.

I would even settle for a conversion of Canon's Mac OS 9 Raw Converter stand-alone, which was at least convenient in that you could drag and drop crws to it from iView or the desktop.

Joe,

One lower priced solution is to go with Photo Shop Elements 2 and the Abobe Camera Raw Plug-in. I got PSE2 for $35.00 after rebates and ACR for $99.00. This is what I did.

Joe -

You might want to check out CRW-X

I'd love to hear some feedback on this freeware as I am looking forward to getting a 10D soon and prefer my Powerbook over my other computers.

Just be careful, as it makes linear images--in other words, you'll be scratching your head wondering why they're dark if you're not prepared.

The Adobe raw converter (based on the same code, from my understanding) works quite nicely IMHO.

Hi Eric,

I think CRW-X should work with 10D since the RAW file format is the same as D60. I plan to release a new version of CRW-X next month.

The next version of GraphicConverter (4.6) will work with the .CRW files from the 10D, but it won't tie the EXIF data from the .THM files to the exported JPEGs.

Joe please email [email protected].

Tell them that you want version of C.O. LE for Macs.

Tell them there are many like me and you that won't want to

have to pay $500 when CO is updated to cover the 10D for macs.

Phase One was clear that they have no plans for an OSX Canon RAW converter, and I'm not going back to Wintel, so I broke down and bought the Adobe. It works very very well, and I have no more complaints about blown highlights, softness, or shadow noise from the 10D.
