Hi!

I just got hold of an X100V that will be shipped to me tomorrow, just in time for our vacation next week. Is the app capable and reliable of transferring images to my iPhone or iPad or should I get an SD to lightning/usb-c instead?

The only use I have for the App is time and location synch between the camera and iPhone. It’s a nice feature but not having it would not be a factor in buying a camera or not. That only requires Bluetooth. Recent Fuji cameras have low power Bluetooth support which makes the communications more reliable. The other feature of the app is the ability to track F/W and make F/W updates. But again I could live without it.

The Leica Fotos app is much better than Fuji’s all around. I’ve even taken a few shot with my Leica on the tripod using the remote on my phone. But for the price difference, I expect the Leica would work well. I would much rather Fuji spend their R&D on improving the HW
If me not wrong, Fujifilm's sensor and processor should direct purchase from 3rd part vendor (e.g. Sony), not require any R&D cost.

Major R&D cost should be camera body (button/dial) ergonomics & camera firmware.

It should similar to R&D of Android smartphone maker (who release various smartphone body & customize the OS).
and camera performance.
As long as use latest sensor & faster processor, performance will be good.

And Apple does not buy its processors, TSMC does. However, Apple does not buy off the shelf TSMC processors. Qualcomm does not fabrictate their Snapdragon processor (TSMC does) or or any of their LTE/5G cell phone chip sets. But they sure spend a lot of R&D designing them so they can be contracted out to a foundry. Sony is a foundry - no different than TSMC.

They do not have chips laying around on the shelf Fuji or any other camera company can use. Fuji has to design their sensor and provide Sony with the appropriate documentation so Sony can fabricate them in their process. In doing that Fuji owns the rights to their sensor specifications just as Nikon owns the rights to their sensor specifications and Sony cannot resell those chips since they don't own the rights.

I expect the major cost for all camera companies is the sensor design.

My experience with the App really depends on the camera body. I've used only the iOS version, on both iPhone and iPad. With XS10, I occasionally encounter the lost connection issue, but that's not that unbearable in fact, a restart of App and camera will solve the problem. With the new XH2, I find the connection is more stable and the transfer speed is really fast when using 5G. Meanwhile, I just got an XE3, used, and now I begin to understand why there are so many complaints about the App: connection takes MINUTES instead of seconds, and the transfer is slow and easily interrupted. I think I'll just grab an sd card reader then.

I find this app so dispiriting that I've not caught up but just to agree the issue is the connection to the device. When it is connected it is OK - not brilliant, but OK. I'd sooner have a wired connection that worked.

I have had two Fujifilm cameras so far and 2 different iPhones. I had the X-T200 then traded it in for a used X-T3.

I used the X-T200 with the iPhone 11 Pro Max and the 12 Pro Max, and it kept randomly disconnecting or not even connecting at all. With the X-T3 I have only tried it with my iPhone 12 Pro Max and honestly, it's been perfect. I have been able to transfer raw and jpegs really quickly, I haven't had any issues with it whatsoever. Maybe I got lucky with the X-T3's WiFi and BT module? Not sure.

In my experience using several different iPhones, the Fuji app is an embarrassment to the brand.

Second this. The iOS app works perfectly with my X-T3. Meanwhile I've never been able to do a firmware update or image transfer with my X100s following the exact same steps and every other suggestion under the sun.
