Canon R6 - wakeup time from standby up to 10 seconds

Hi,

I have a Canon R6, and am using a Lexar Professional 1800x 270Mb/s V60 II SDXC card (other slot is empty).

I usually leave my camera ON, but after a while it goes into standby mode. When I pick the camera up to take a photo (for example, I'll see a bird in the distance I want to start tracking as it flies towards me), it can take up to 10 seconds for the camera to 'wake up', and the focus point overlay in the EVF/ on-screen to show - unacceptably long for me. Whilst waiting, the red light on the back (bottom right) is flashing, which I think relates to the memory card.

Any tips/advice really welcome, as I am missing shots due to this.

Firmware version is 1.5.2, and I have Eco Mode turned OFF.

(On a related point, my AF really struggles to 'pick out' small objects like birds, and hunts repeatedly - something I didn't have a problem with using the 5D Mark III - I will search the forum for any advice on this, as it's also quite frustrating!)

Thanks,

Richard.

I’ve seen exactly this behavior when I have a whole bunch of photos on the memory card (like several thousand). To avoid it I make sure to download every day.

Sounds like the card.

Take the card out and see if the problem goes away while shooting without card. If yes, you have confirmed its due to the card

As mentioned by previous poster, too much data on the card can slow down some cards, specially if they haven't been formatted in the camera

If you haven't, try formatting the card in camera and see if that helps

Finally, see if you can try a different fast card. That can answer this fairly quickly

My R6 is ready to go by the time it's up to my eye. Must be far less than a second.

I've also had thousands of photos on card and have never knowingly seen the same issue.

I use 2 64GB sandisc cards. Switching the camera on it takes a while 3-4 seconds . However from sleep mode to on is instant

Make sure that "EVF Auto Off" is disabled under menu Wrench-2.

I was frustrated by the fact that the EVF would go dark after about 5 sec of my face not being against the camera. It would re-activate when I once again looked through the EVF, but there was a slight delay--that would possible cause me to miss an action shot (football). I cut a small piece of aluminum foil, doubled it over and used black electrical tape to secure it over the EVF motion sensor. The EVF now stays active continuously.

I doubt the OP has been waiting for 3 months to try out a setting on this

And 10sec is a fair bit of time to wait for a sleeping EVF to come back to life, so I bet OP's case is not the same as what you are talking about

Lexar uhs-ii suck. There is a reason they cost only a quarter of a Sandisk uhs-ii. Bought 2 of them and both gave me corrupt photo's.
