I rented out a SELP1635G lens to see if it would fit our studio setup.
I mounted the lens on an a7c body and tried to access the zoom speed setting.
From what I have seen, it should be available under the zoom menu - page 6/10 (titled "zoom") under the second camera tab.

However, the zoom option is greyed out and if I try to push it, then I get the following message:

"Lens (Invalid with this lens)"

Does anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong here?

Thanks in advance,

The lens is a PZ (Power Zoom) - there is a big button on the lens.

The zoom level is controlled by the lens, not the camera

Most Sony FF and APS-C bodies do not have a zoom controller, but there are some video-oriented exceptions, such as the FF FX3 and the APS-C ZV-E10.

The Zoom in the menu is for adjusting the CIZ (Clear Image Zoom) feature, which can be useful for shooting video.

The A5100 and ZV-E10 have a zoom button that works with the E1650 PZ lens. Not only CIZ, but also PZ. The FF models don't have this button afaik. Perhaps assign a key?

I tried to assign a key to zoom, but the same thing happens:
"!Lens Invalid with this lens."

What I want to test out is the zoom speed shown here in this YouTube clip:

To achieve this, we need to set the zoom speed of the lens, which seems to be impossible on the a7c, but maybe I set something wrong.

It is not even possible to add a button to Wide or Telephoto zoom, only to zoom.
As you can see in the screenshots:

Once clicked on the shortcut, I get the same message:
"!Lens Invalid with this lens."

I just bought the same lens and wanted to connect it with rsc2 gimbal and had the same situation. I'm gonna try to upgrade firmware of a7c (which version is yours?) Mine is still vol.1

Hi, I bought this lens today for my A7c - I have the same problem - couldn't find anything about that issue also via youtube etc.

I contacted Sony ceo here in my country - I will share the solution when i'll receive it .

It's bit frustrating - but it's not a deal breaker with the lens for me..

nice to have though.

Just checked my A7C and it's the same as yours.

I'm sure there was an option to choose how fast the electronic zoom used to operate when I got the lens but can't remember now as it was a while ago...

I'm sure I updated the firmware on A7C immediately before buying the lens so can't explain it? Maybe I just imagined it :-\
