B&H or Adorama (or both)

The Payboo card is being discontinued. I have/had one, but got a notice months ago that it would be cancelled, as the program is coming to an end.
You are mistaken. The original Payboo program, administered by Synchrony Bank, has been replaced by a new program administered by Comenity Capital Bank.

Communications from B&H about this have been unclear. Will I be automatically sent a new card, then? I haven't received one.

It is a different credit card with a different bank. You can't just sign someone else up for a credit card without them applying for it. So no, you would not be automatically sent a card.

I have received several emails with information regarding this even though I have never had either card. Notices were also posted on the main page for a while.

If you missed all of that or feel it was unclear, you can always call or email B&H directly instead of asking random people on a web forum ;-)

Is there a downside to the B&H PAYBOO card? It seems too good to be true. Would I really get about $200 instant price reduction on my $3000 purchase ?
Whatever you state sales tax is times the $3000 is what you save. I don't know how they do it...but they do.

There is a new Payboo card. I used mine yesterday. B&H simply switched vendors.
Yeah, I got mine a few months back, and the limited drop to 1/3 of what it was. There were a few things in my list were over the lower limit. Requested limit increase with the new vendor without any success.

My new card had a out 1/2 of my previous PayBoo. I was getting ready to make a big purchase - reached out to them and they doubled my limit.

Good for you. The emails I received buried these details. They made it clear that my card would be cancelled, but not that I could apply for a new one.

Read again: Henry Posner is a B&H rep, not "random people". Duh.

From the message our CMO sent during December 2021:
While we regret the inconvenience, customers will have to complete a credit application to apply for the new Payboo® Card. Once approved, customers will be able to use the new account right away and continue to enjoy the Payboo® benefits.

Thank you. I skipped down to this part:

What does this mean for your current Payboo® Card?
  • Your current Payboo® Card, issued by Synchrony Bank, will be valid for use with the “Save the Tax” instant benefit until January 17, 2022
  • You will receive a notice from Synchrony Bank soon stating that your current Payboo® Card will no longer be usable for new B&H purchases after January 17, 2022. (Please continue to manage your current account and pay off any outstanding balances in accordance with the terms and conditions)
and my eyes glazed over. My bad, I guess. Something like "We invite you to apply for a new PayBoo card" right at the top would have helped.

Since I'm an eligible professional working in NYC, I think I'll just file a sales tax exemption form instead.

Which is best for a new camera ? Are they equals?

Thanks

Are you going there?

B&H is very much larger. More on floors to see, more in stock new and used, to take away.

Most of my gear is from B&H and most of it is used or refurb. including 4 Nikon DSLR and and an SLR. That is, I have not bought a new Nikon body. I get a very good result by buying used in-person; being able to handle the piece or one or another of same if available to make a choice. Or leave it and get new piece if you decide then.

PS. My first camera I purchased there was April 2001 for new Oly 2.1 mp, and last body purchased was used high-grade Nikon D810 in Jan. 2021 (~1400 shutter activations according to a web site reading of EXIF data). Prior owner's info. was still in it (from west coast time zone). I did not reset it. I changed all settings throughout instead.
