I'll be taking pics of a 9 person group including myself. I have the M50ii and the Sigma 30mm which I don't think will be wide enough. What are some suggestions of lenses that would be good? I'm open to adapted lenses also. And since I'm included in the pic what is the best way to take the pic? Timer or is there some type of remote I can use. Thanks

If you think it’s too wide, try the EF-M 22mm. Bang it in a tripod and either use the 10s timer or the Canon Camera Connect App on a 2s timer.

group shots are my thing

i'd do 4 tall in back - semi circle -, 3 medium straddled in the gaps in the middle, and 2 shortest in front

make sure their full faces can be seen in the viewfinder

use 10 sec delay to trigger but better to use the canon app and count down for the group.

focus with the back button focus on the center face in the middle of the pack and then let off the back button to stop the focus -- then get in the group

use manual mode and f6.3 and ss 1/125 and enough light to keep iso down

the 30 could work with the above configuration if you had enough space

if not, a 22 would work - you could use f5.6 and ss down to ss 1/60 on tripod if they are reminded to be still and keep their eyes open

take at least 5 shots to account for blinking eyes

I use triggers and receivers, off camera lighting and 60 inch umbrella

good luck!

Would the Sigma 16 be ideal for this if I needed an excuse for a new lens?
if you have a program like dxo PL5 to do the distortion (barrel correction - then yes, it is a great lens
