Hi,

A question for the Z9 owners out there.

When taking in-camera multiple exposures, does the Z9 output a RAW file, or only JPEG like the earlier Z bodies? This is my only gripe with the Z system and one of the only reasons to keep DSLRs for me (I love doing in camera M/Es and not knowing exactly what I’m going to get - so often it has resulted in a great shot). It would nice to know I’d be able to shoot RAW M/Es on my next Z body which will most likely be the next iteration of the Z7ii or Z8 if it appears as rumoured.

thanks

It does from what I can gather (others can correct me if I am wrong). I just tried it to make sure and got multiple raw images in my camera from the two pictures. Reference guide manual Page 529 (US/english) on Multiple exposure states that you can save individual pictures in raw.

That is a huge improvement over other recent DSLR's and other Z bodies if I am correct. My D810 gave me a raw file then Nikon went backwards with a jpeg for a while.

I tried it just now. Unless there is some other setting somewhere which I didn’t find that alters the behavior, the option pertaining to “saving as raw” applies only to the source images.

No I think you are correct. Maybe I misunderstood the question, but you are correct it is the source and not the ultimate composite raw. If you want to do something with that you can use a C1, PS, etc to edit two raws together to get the intensity that you desire.

What a disappointment from Nikon, again. Can anyone figure out what's the underlying logic for these backward technological changes? This is probably achievable with some simple firmware update. But why not doing it, Nikon?

Aside from being a format of memory, photography is more about creating images as a way of expression than just taking photos.

Same with HDR and Multiple Exposure. Very silly.
