I bought this and am in 6 days sending it back. I could not get ONE sharp birds in flight shot. If you have this lens let me know how it fares for you. Static shots are pretty sharp at 500mm, maybe not top of class but acceptable. Moving subjects at 500mm not so much. Tried everything on my Sony A7R IVA, different tracking focus points, shutter speed at least 1/1250th, high speed, low speed burst... not one useable shot. I'm talking eagles and seagulls and cranes too, nothing really darty. I know it's the lens, too, as my Sony 100-400mm G Master lens gives me great results. Tried all three OS settings on the lens and none of them provided acceptable results. Anyway, pretty disappointed and it's possible I got a bad sample but I sent it back for a refund. Hope your experience is better!

Why did you not send it back for another copy? The reviews are very good. You may indeed have received a marginal/bad copy as you suggested.

Were you able to get sharp images of birds in flight before? Or is that your first attempt at shooting a very difficult subject? What shutter speeds were you using?
