Difference between an AC adapter and a dummy battery

Hello, I've tried searching but not been able to find this question answered directly so decided to finally make an account to see if anybody had it down.

I've had multiple knockoff AC-PW20s in my time but never really paid attention to how they were working. I use a couple of A6000s for streaming so it's important to me that they work reliably and I think I noticed what the quality difference is and it's that there is a difference between a dummy battery and an AC adapter.

Crucially, a dummy battery is just pretending to be a battery and supplying power as if it were a battery (so you'll see that the battery indicator in camera says it's at a certain % of power left) but the AC power adapter registers in the camera as continuous power. This is important because it stops the camera thinking it needs to be turning it off if it's not actively recording.

So the question is, is there any way to know which you are getting when you buy a knock-off AC-PW20 from Amazon? Do we know what feature actually causes it to register properly?
