OM-1 Manual

Look at page 34, shooting, first picture. No wonder OVF users are scared of EVFs

It's nice to see they have used the image of the boy with the puppy again. The first time I saw it was in the E-410 manual in March 2007 and it has been in most manuals since. I think it may have been used earlier than this in compact camera manuals.

In my first quick scan through I was impressed by how much clearer the explanations seem to be than in previous Olympus manuals. It seems to me that OM Systems has gone to some effort with the OM-1 to "demystify" many of the controls and customizations both in the manual and in the new menu system.

I must say the Instruction Manual itself is in my view much more logical than the one for the Mii which I have. As a none native English speaker I think better English and naming of features as well.

I read through it cover to back and I convinced myself that I need to upgrade from Mii to OM-1. Let's slaughter the piggy bank.

I use the camera almost exclusively for wild life - bird photography with 300/f4 and macro 60/2.8

Key reasons to upgrade in no particular order:

Faster processor

Better view finder

Greater ISO range

More logical Menu organization

Better SCP layout

MY menu option in camera

In camera battery charging and charging from USB

Separate AEL and AF-ON buttons

Separate ISO button

B setting to bind in Mii many deep menu long exposure features

Star AF

Bird and wild life AI

In camera ND filters

In camera * rating images

Minor improvements:

Four instead of three customized settings C1 - C4

Not so sure about:

front and back wheels, I like the Mii-Miii wheels on top

The E-M1X control dial design is much easier to use with gloves.
