I had a project get funded and I have $1300 to spend on a camera kit. Originally, my project was for a Sony a6400 with the 18-135mm lens. Now the camera is impossible to find due to chip shortages and I have to go with another camera.

The problem is that I can only use it on either Best Buy business or Amazon business - and must be sold and shipped by Amazon. I do have an additional $300 credit towards another project, but I’m not sure it can be applied to this specific project - waiting to hear back.

between those two sites, these are currently my options:

X-S10 18-55mm f.28-4 $1499 - only if the $300 can be applied

X-S10 body only for $1000

Sony a6600 body only $1399

Canon EOS M6 Mark II 18-1500mm $1365 - only $65 more so it could work

Sony A6000 16-50mm $900

- unfortunate, no Fujifilm X-T30

I went with the a6400 because of its fast af to capture students playing sports and my dog at play. Also, I know the lenses for Sony are a lot cheaper than Fuji which is another reason I opted for the Sony instead of Fuji’s colors. Video in 4K was a big draw without the overheating issue.

with that said, any thoughts or suggestions? I have to make a decision on Friday, and unless a6400s magically appear, I have to make due with one of these.

thanks!

I can’t order it. For the business account linked to my project it prohibits from buying third-party or used/renewed items.

What's wrong with the a6000? It's cheaper, so you have money left over for an extra lens, which is a bigger deal than whatever advantage the a6400 body brings.

The sony 16-50mm lens is small and decent, but compared to the camera specs it's a let down, buying a faster, sharper lens is practically a must in order to fully benefit from the camera.

Yeah the a6000 is a steal atm if you can find decent sets. You can use the cost saving on better lenses from Sony or Tamron etc.

But the A6000 is contrast detect focus only and is a much slower focusing camera than the A6400.

Yeah but it is cheaper and you can still get great shots... just take your time to shoot and compose lol. Don't be impatient.

EDIT: Right... you want to shoot fast moving subjects + dogs. Maybe you can consider a cheap 2nd hand DSLR with a high burst rate.

It can’t be a used camera. It has to be new or it won’t be approved for purchase. If it’s Amazon, it can’t be a third-party camera. I know, it sucks. That’s why I specifically put the cameras listed as they fit the criteria.

Well based on your circumstances perhaps that's the only viable option for you. Hope you get it sorted out soon (or get additional budgeting), cheers.

Are you sure? The a6000 over the other options? I was thinking about trying to get the X-S10 body and getting a lens separately.

Is the Canon not an option, either?

You may get more answers if you repost in the buying advice forum:

This is not true!

A6000 has full PDAF area with photo and video! It is slower focusing but not with much.

It is a bit slower and has no 4K video though.
Will be much more helpful if OP share what is the point of the project.

That is what I would suggest to get!

Also it seems now to cost only $1399 at best buy.

The x-s10 is a very competent stills and film camera, has ibis, very good AF, and the 18-55 mm lens is highly regarded and has optical image stabilisation aswwell.
