Hi!

My Olympus mju:ZOOM is not working properly. When I turn it on, it´s orange light starts flashing. Also, when I try to take a picture on any flash mode, this orange light flash too. The camera can only take pictures if it´s flash is off. I tried changing the battery and leaving the camera some time without the battery, and the error continues.

I have read somewhere the error ocurres when the flash capacitors stop working. I would love to recieve some information about this. I am from Argentina, and i would like to repair it by myself.

I will be alert to any solution and responses I recieve,

Santos.

Hi Santos and welcome. I had a µ Zoom, back in the day.

The flash capacitor is one possibility, but before you go down that road, there's one other thing to check:

On this camera, the flash pops up automatically when the cover is slid open to turn the camera on. If you push the flash down, it retracts the lens so you can then just slide the clamshell cover closed without having to stop and wait for the lens to retract. There has to be a switch to sense when the flash is pressed down. Maybe that is clogged with pocket lint or something. Fixing that wouldn't require any new parts.

When you open up the camera, check that first. If that switch seems to be clean and un-obstructed, replace the flash capacitor. That will be easy to find, as it will be huge; probably the biggest single component in the camera. It will have a high voltage rating, at least 200 V, probably more like 400-600 V.

Hey I've got the same problem with my Olympus Mju Zoon. Did you ever manage to fix yours?
