I'm interested in a fast 50mm for ultra low light portraits with my for my Sony A7R3, came across this two similarly priced options. The f1.1 is the older M-mount that could be easily adapted with an adapter. The newer f1.05 variant can obviously come in the native FE mount, but the pricing seems to be almost identical, also the DoF and light capabilities should be indistinguishable.

So, does anyone have experience with both? Which does handle better, how do they compare in terms of the image quality wide open?

You should probably consult some test sites in addition to getting opinions.

Here are the lens construction diagrams:

The 1.05 has a lot more elements and is probably better corrected for aberrations.
But more elements means more light lost to internal reflections so I would guess they have pretty close T values despite the difference in F#s.

Thank you. I saw reviews of both, but no direct comparisons. You are right with your assessment of the 1.05 to have a larger T number. Some reviewers estimated this lens to be 1.05 for DoF and 1.1-1 2 for the light transmission.

Was hoping that someone can shed more light on how they stand against each other.

Buy the 7Artisans f1.05. Forget about the M mount one. There are a ton of problems with latter, including CA, flare and most importantly, bad busy bokeh with a ton of swirl. It was after all the first lens introduced by 7Artisans when they launched their company.

7Artisans 1.05 is a much better design.

If f1.05 is not a hard requirement, TTArtisan 50mm 1.4 is also quite good and costs a bit less.

7Artisans f1.05 is also better than TTArtisan f0.95 M mount.
