Ive been starting to see more and more paint chip away from my Z5 and kind of like the way its looking as im using it more. my question is are there any bad things that come long with this "Brassing"? will I see rusting, or any malfunctions like that? thank you!

I have a long-standing order my camera dealer to keep an eye out for a heavily brassed Nikon SP, with extra points if it was used by a famous photographer.

I'm all for brassing.

Question: is it still brassing if there is no brass underneath?

yes definitely understanding what you mean, and obviously technically not brassing (hence the quotation marks) but speaking from a camera with a magnesium alloy body, wondering if the magnesium alloy would be as durable as brass once exposed. thank you

This happens to my D500. Seems to be minor and mostly near the edges. I'm pretty sure a small amount won't damage the integrity of the camera.

...you are using your camera. :-)

If I wanted my Z7 to look like new after more than three years of use then I would have kept it in the original plastic bag and the box it came in. Yes, it has also some "brassing" and "de-rubberisation" but I am not worried about rust. After all, it is not made of steel.

Hi!

One might call brassing also wearing? My only camera that has visible wearing or brassing marks in corners is CPA. And no, obviously there is no brass.

I don't want or need brassing, but then, if those signs show up, I don't get sad, either. I guess there is lot of material to be weared, before an hole is appeared in corner of camera. As said, brassing/wearing shows you have used your camera. And probably a lot.
