We’re just a week or two away from the second anniversary of the release of the most recent iteration of the X100 series - the X100v. It’s clearly a very good camera but I must admit I’m surprised that it’s still at £1299 in the UK, as far as I can remember the price it launched at. Suggests either supply is limited or demand is super high, maybe a bit of both. Either way I’m a little surprised there’s no competition yet in the market place between sellers.

What do others think? Will the price start to dip any time soon?

Maybe Unilateral Minimum Resale Price is in play? Don't know camera pricing practices by manufacturers.

Not sure the price will dip. In case you did not notice, we are a year and a half into a pandemic that has disrupted the market (i.e., the entire chain of production and consumption). Prices are unlikely to come down in the foreseeable future. On the other hand, we are talking about late capitalism....so you never know.

No. The price will never dip. Barring a sale or a new model, the price will remain as is.

They only discount I have seen on the camera is the student price on B&H. I think it knocks about $100 USD off the regular price.

Out Of Stock - does not mean a high demand, it could well in these times the cameras are not being manufactured.. L

It is still being manufactured and the little stock which actually arrives at retailers is sold out pretty fast. It's not only the US market, here in Germany the camera is also on short supply, the shops which get new stock are sold out very quickly. It already was on high-demand about a year ago, however the situation about restocks weren't as bad then as they are right now. If no demand would be there, the stock would be sitting on the shelves.

In regards to the original question, I doubt the price will really dip anytime soon. At least around here the streetprice is about a hundred bucks below MSRP (has been for a while), but I doubt we'll see any dramatic rebates. Even if a new X100 model will be introduced later this year, we don't know how it will be priced. With the current shortage of electronic components, which also goes in line with a price increase for those, it might very well be possible the next X100 might be a bit more expensive and they simply keep selling the existing X100V stock as a cheaper alternative at the current price.

A close friend of our family died during the first wave of the pandemic so, yes, I had noticed.

Thanks to all for the replies. Clearly the supply chain disruption is the significant factor. Here in the UK, inflation is high, and likely going higher, so this will gradually feed through into consumer spending during this year, possibly reducing demand for luxury goods. Maybe if that happens we’ll begin to see some discounts.

I’d been weighing buying either the X100v, or the new 23 1.4 once it’s available, but at current prices I’m not tempted.

Here in Canada it went on sale over the Christmas holidays, but I can’t tell you how much was discounted, never bothered to check.

Well , we must be more lucky here in Australia.

Within last 30 days there were many deals to purchase X100V with AU$400 discount.

There are at least 2 suppliers still offering this discount.

The stock is limited and many are on back-order.

I just purchased the black one , arrived yesterday.

Very nice apparatus, it will happily replace my beloved Pentax MX-1.

It is a bit bigger but it has both OVF and EVF , it should be fun.

In the US it is difficult to find even at the full list price. When Amazon has them, they are typically over list price by a few hundred, usually as part of a "kit" with a memory card and a cheap bag to justify the higher price.

It’s in demand, I just sold my used X100v for $100 less than what a paid new for it .

In my memory even before the pandemic there were hardly any discounts with the X100 before the next model arrived. So you need to wait for the X100VI then buy the X100V with discount.

The good news is that you can buy early and enjoy the camera without fearing that it looses value quickly 😃

...So was the Xt3 after 1) the xt4 announcement and 2) 3 years after release! And it wa readily in stock.

The x100V has no replacement and they can't build it fast enough!!!!!

I don’t think this is a pandemic thing, having watched their pricing over several years now I think this is just how Fuji is. They have occasional sales and promotions (eg cashback) but until a model is replaced the price rarely changes, especially on the lower volume models such as the X100 and X-Pro series.

The difference now is that with the supply problems etc, they don’t really need to fall over themselves to give cashback quite as often.

I don't think it's likely that the X100 has super high demand.

I would guess it has a sustained on going demand within it's market niche. It doesn't have any direct competition at its pricepoint and it has a good reputation.

The Ricoh GR iii has been on sale longer and its price has been fairly stable as well.

What other contenders are left? The Pen F has gone, Sony seemed to lose interest in the RX1, and we have Leica at a large premium. The X100 sits quite distinct in terms of style and features- and has an established price point and value between the Ricoh and Leica options.

Bingo! Spoken like a true business analyst. Companies research themselves and their market often, to determine how best to optimize sales and profit. I think Fujifilm knows where they sit in the market and if you have not seen any price adjustments, either recently or historically, it’s for a good reason. IMO.
