My back has healed enough that I can start scanning again. I scanned two 4x5 negs today that are of the same subject as two of the 6x6s I posted before. I thought people might be interested in the differences.
  • 6x6 with a Hasselblad 501c
  • 4x5 with a Linhof Master Technika
  • TMax 100 for the 6x6 and TMax 100 Professional for the 4x5
  • DIfferent postproduction; I didn't look at the 6x6 ones before I did the 4x5 ones.
  • Both scanned with a GFX 100S and Rodenstock 105mm f/5.6 HR Digaron Macro.

Thanks Jim! It has been interesting looking at your journey into MF scanning. I arrived at a similar setup using an Arca Swiss Monolith, an IQ4-150 back and a Schneider Digitar 120M lens, although without the motorized focus rail. I love the flexibility that comes with using a monorail camera for exact positioning and focusing.

I am not crazy about my light source (a Kaiser LED light table) or my film holders (Imacon knock offs held to a frame with magnets), but that toaster looks like it may be a great option for me.

The FilmToaster is not cheap, but the guy who designed it solved a lot of problems that you'd otherwise have to solve for yourself.

I should point out that the 4x5 and 6x6 images of the same subjects were made on different days. I never carried both cameras at the same time.

Noticed the skies are different.

Subjectively, I'm more drawn to the 6x6 -- the ratio seems to suit the subject more. Also I like how the sky renders darker, it brings the focus to the dish more. On magnification, I was surprised to see the 4x5 have sharper details.
