Seems Sony is discontinuing support for the LA-EA4 adapter for A-mount lenses. Was trying my Minolta 200mm/2.8.... No autofocus supported even with the LA-EA4.

Looked it up and confirmed:

They have moved on to the LA-EA5 adapter as exclusive way to autofocus screw drive lenses.

I also just got the A74, and was thinking maybe an adapter would be nice now and then. So, the LA-EA5 is the one?

Yes, I've posted this several times. The A7C is last camera that supports AF with the LA-EA4. But Sony has only removed AF support with the LA-EA2 and LA-EA4 with recent cameras. Those adapters still allow manual focus, aperture control, EXIF, SteadyShot, Lens Compensation, etc.

The LA-EA1 didn't support any AF when originally released and only offered horribly slow contrast-detect AF when AF was added to it. Sony's LA-EA5 support is still missing AF functions that native emulating adapters offer like AF-S in the focus magnifier and stopped down focusing.

The A7RIV(A) and A6600 are the only cameras that support screw-drive AF with both the LA-EA4 and LA-EA5. The A6600 like the other E-mount APS-C bodies doesn't support A-mount Lens Compensation.

The Monster Adapter people released a new firmware for their LA-EA4 mod. The modified LA-EA4 does support AF on cameras that don't have AF with the unmodified adapter.

Thanks for the info.

It's pretty stinky for Sony to discontinue the LA-EA4 support. Not that is was such great support. It's a 12-year-old AF system.
