Hi,

Is Creative Look in the A7iv what used to be called Creative Style in the A7ii?

Also, I was using Clear and Landscape Creative Styles in the A7ii (I found that Landscape made my jpegs visibly sharper when shooting planes), but it looks like the A7iv doesn't have those out of the box. Does anyone know how I can replicate them as Custom Looks?

Thanks,

Jim

"Creative Look" appears to do the same thing as "Creative Style" but with more Looks and adjustments to choose from. "FL" seems to be the new "Landscape".

Creative Style Landscape (A7II):
"The saturation, contrast, and sharpness are heightened for shooting vivid and crisp scenery. Distant landscapes also stand out more."

Creative Look FL (A7IV):
"Creates an image with moody finish by applying sharp contrast to the calm coloring as well as the impressive sky and colors of the greens."

Hi,

Yes it is renamed in the A7iv, but I couldn't figure out if there is an equivalent to "Landscape". I will try "FL" as you suggested, to see how that works.

Thanks!

Hi,

I was comparing the detail settings/numbers for VV vs. FL in the A7iv and it looks like both "looks" have the same settings. All are 0 except for the last 3, which are 4-3-1.

That pattern (all 0 with last 3 being 4-3.1) seems to be the settings for several other looks also, e.g., the ST/Standard look has those same settings.

I guess I don't understand? Are some other settings that we cannot change that aren't displayed that would make, for example VV different than FL?

Thanks,

Jim

I have an A7RIV that uses Creative Styles so I can't check.

I always imagined the different Creative Styles applied different tone curves to each color channel during JPEG processing, then we could change them slightly with the Contrast, Sharpness, Saturation settings. After all, even with all settings at zero, each Creative Style had a different effect on an image.

I'm imagining Creative Look works the same way.

I did some shooting with the A7iv, set to creative looks FL of a BAW flight, and I happened to have some similar shots of another BAW flight from a couple of months ago, where creative scene (or whatever it was called back then) was Landscape.

Here's one of the older A7ii shot (SOOC, creative Landscape):

A7ii, creative Landscape, Nov 2021, using Altson adapter and Canon 400mm
A7ii, creative Landscape, Nov 2021, using Altson adapter and Canon 400mm

Here's one of the newer A7iv shots (SOOC, creative looks FL):

A7iv, creative FL, Dec 2021, using Metabones adapter and Canon 400mm
A7iv, creative FL, Dec 2021, using Metabones adapter and Canon 400mm

I think that the images are similar sharpness-wise, but the A7iv - FL image has a bluish tint, compared to the A7ii - Landscape image?

Also the a7ii image has more vignetting (with the Altson adapter) than the A7iv image (with the Metabones adapter).

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Jim

Does anyone has some receipt to post ?

I'm currently playing with FL look. It is not that easy to achieve something clean, especially with the skin colors.
