Where are the RF Lenses Canon?

No 20 1.8 or 1.4? No 24mm 1.4. No 35mm 1.2, or 1.4 glass. No 200mm prime, no 70-200 f4, no 135mm 1.8 or 1.4?

Rumours but, when?
Why don't you ask Canon? Let us know what you hear back. Thanks

None of the big camera manufacturers make mirrorless 20mm or 24mm f/1.4 or 35mm f/1.2 lenses. Nobody makes a mirrorless 200mm prime and only Sony makes a mirrorless 135mm prime (that was released nine years after their first E mount lens). We can live in hope.

RF 70-200 f/4 IS exists, don't expect non IS ever.

My prediction :)

No 20 1.8 anytime soon

24 1.8 coming very soon, Q1 2022 (along the lines of the 16 2.8/35 1.8/50 1.8/85 1.8)

35 1.2/1.4 coming very soon, Q1 2022

135 1.4/1.8 coming very soon, Q1 2022

24 1.4, No earlier than end of 2022

light 2.8 constant zoom coming 2022

new tele primes, possibly announced 2022, delivery whoo knows!

might be some TS lens, might be some tie-up with Sigma or Tamron or both to properly licence their lenses, see what Nikon has done with Tamron?

I don't think you'll get a huge amount of supportive response, but it's true that Canon hasn't been quick releasing RF lenses. These are the actual numbers announced, going back a few years before the EOS R launch to give the numbers some context:

2021: Officially 6 x RF lenses, but two of these are the 400/2.8 and 600/4 which are just EF lenses with RF mounts bolted on, with not even a control ring. So 4.

2020: 7

2019:
Officially 6, but two of these are the RF 85/1.2 and the DS version of the same lens, so we'll say .

2018: 4 x RF lenses launched with the EOS R. Plus the last ever EF-M lens, and the last 4 EF lenses, all updated L's.

2017: 6

2016: 6

2015: 4

2014: 6

So 2020 was good, but overall the announcement of RF lenses has run at an average of about 5 per year which is actually slower than the final five years of EF/EF-S/EF-M.

There's been a worldwide pandemic for the past two years that's slowed down progress in many manufacturing situations.

I'm surprised you haven't heard about it :-D
The 2020 announcements/launches will have been developed and probably gone into production pre-COVID, so I suspect there was no change at all.

2021 was no doubt affected, but it's hard to tell how many products were postponed, as opposed to going ahead with limited supplies as for the R5 and R6, and the 100-500 (and now others too).

Actually, things have happened in the past two year that have not happened 2014-18. But if DPR is your main source of information, you might have missed that.

People hate it when you bring actual facts into these discussions.

2019 was a 'normal' year too; then as per my other post, it's likely that supply was affected rather than announcements/launches in 2020. It's harder to say whether any announcements were postponed in 2021, but the rumour mill hasn't come up with anything much. Still, if you remove 2021 from the calculation because of the complicating factors, it is still true that RF lens announcements have been slower than EF/EF-S/EF-M in the previous few years. A fact which I find rather surprising.

Fair point, But in the end, we're talking about one or two lenses more or less. And one development whose effects on all firms' (not just Canon's) rate of product innovation that is very hard to assess: The overall declining market. Sure, having more native RF lenses more quickly would be nice but I am still happy with what they did. For what's missing, I am happy adapting such lenses as the EF 35/1.4 II or the EF 135/2. The only real gap is a high-quality ultrawide prime as the EF 20 and EF 14 are rather old and certainly have some limitations.

Fuji makes a 200mm F2 prime with a 1.4 teleconverter for its mirrorless X-mount. $6,000.

True the numbers are all small, but surely you would expect (or hope for) an increase in activity, not a decrease even if it was a small one.

Plus there is the frustration of having no RF lens launches from Sigma and Tamron, so I can understand why people such as the OP are grumbling.

Ah well, what we're all doing about it is another question altogether. I have a 100-500, but for most other purposes I'm using adapted lenses with great success and zero additional outlay. That said, I don't use any ultrawide primes, and for the time being I'm sticking to my EF 16-35/4L IS (while trying to ignore the imploring wails in my head from the 14-35 which thinks I'm its daddy).

Look at the development history of EF mount, it took 10 years for them to get to a 24mm f/1.4 L. And the 35mm f/1.4 L was 11 years after introduction. It was a pretty long journey for EF mount to reach the full breadth of offerings it has today. We're still only 3 years into RF mount. I'm really happy with what they've come out with so far and I can wait as long as it takes to reach their design goals for new lenses.

That's their 300mm f/2.8 equivalent. Their XF 90mm f/2 is their 135mm equivalent, but they don't even have a 135mm (equivalent to a FF 200mm) prime. Their ultra fast wideangle primes are the equivalent of f/2 or f/4 in FF terms.

WOW I have that same problem. One day I gota figure out how to finance the rf 14-35 and the next I think damn my ef 16-35 f4 is awesome, I dont need to spent $1700 for another lens that is at best maybe 10% better.

Maybe I should super glue the adapter to the EF 16-35 and relabel it RF 14-35 and see if that helps any :(

Sony, clearly a big camera manufacturer, makes a 20/1.8 G, 24/1.4 GM, and 35/1.4 GM. Sigma makes the 35/1.2 for Sony E and Lumix L mount. Just want to make sure Sittatunga learns that. A 200mm prime is not but clearly a lower priority but for those that do need it a must have so if they want it Canon is not on their list.
