I am waiting on my EOS R I ordered the battery grip as well. I want to get the new batteries that come with the 5&6 does it work with the old charger or will I need a new one

Absolutely no problem. I am currently using the LP-E6NH battery with the EOS R and this new battery can also be recharged with the charger that came with the EOS R.

There seem to be some issues attempting to charge the LP-E6N in the BG-22 battery grip. I'm not sure that updating the Grip firmware (if needed) actually corrects this problem.

The R came with an LP-E6N. The R5 and R6, LP-E6NH.

The LP-E6NH is supposed to be compatible with the R and the charger for the LP-E6N.

Yes the batteries are exactly the same other than the LP-E6H and HN are the same as the LP-E6 but with a little mote energy density. the charger is the same for all the LP-E6 family batteries.
