Hi all,

New to this setup.

I've had the camera away for quite some time and was finally on a holiday so took some pics and found fairly strong black marking at all 4 corners.

This did not happen when I first got the camera and lens. not sure whats changed or how to "reset" it if possible?

Thanks for any help!

Were you using a hood, filters?? An example would be helpful.

Based on the photo you've posted, the vignette problems seems pretty bad. Didn't you notice it when u were taking shots back at the location ? The only possibility I can think off my head right now is the hood. Were u using the original hood ?

Yea I noticed it but didn’t have time to thoroughly investigate on the road,

no lens hood was being used.

That would help I guess. Here's a good example of the issue.
So, hood? Filters? Anything to add to that? Do you have a SOOC jpeg or RAW file to share? Obviously something is very wrong here, this is mot in any way typical of the 56 f/1.2’s performance.

The EXIF shows 56 mm F1.4 and not the Fujifilm 56 F1.2. Maybe a Viltrox.?

Is the lens you are using the Viltrox 56mm f1.4?

I ask because I bought the Viltrox 23mm f1.4 and 33mm f1.4 that I used very briefly on an X-pro2 before I returned them because both lenses exhibited CA and vignetting but the vignetting was not as bad as your photo shows. I recently bought a Tokina ATX-M 33mm f1.4 that I used with my X-E1. The Tokina lens did not exhibit any CA or vignetting that the Viltrox 33mm f1.4 did.

Bot the Tokina and Viltrox look like twins and were probably made in the same Chinese lens factory. But there are a couple key differences that would explain why the Viltrox lens has problems and the Tokina does not. Tokina paid Fuji to provide the electronics for the lens mount and the firmware for the ATX-M 33mm f1.4. So it performs just like any Fuji would, including any corrections for CA or vignetting. Plus firmware updates are done through the Camera, just like Fuji lenses. Viltrox elected to reverse engineer everything themselves and the first sign of this is a micro-USB port on the base of the Viltrox lenses to update firmware because it cannot be updated through the camera like the Fuji, Zeiss Touit, and Tokina AF lenses can.

Yes it’s the viltrox. It didn’t have this issue when I first got it (Xmas 2020 gift).

hvent been shooting for bout 6 months and now I’m getting this issue. Otherwise would have returned it back then.

I just tried my other lens the fuji 23mm f2. Same vignette issue.

so this is a camera problem now…..new thoughts?

Which RAW editor did you use? Any changes in here?

I bought a used FX 23mm f2 R WR less than a month ago and have been using it mostly on my X-T1 without any issues. So your thoughts on it being a problem with your X-E3 sounds correct.
  • You could start with updating the firmware to the latest release.
  • Cleaning the cover glass on the sensor stack just to be sure.
  • If that doesn't work try a full reset back to the factory defaults, but I doubt it's a setting.
I really don't think any of these will fix it, but unless somebody else has a solution, it's probably time to call Dr. Fuji.

thanks. Guess that means sending the camera away for god knows how long…..Tips on how to clean the sensor? Any instruction video online?

thanks everyone

There are both wet and dry kits. I'm not sure why there are dry kits, especially if you are looking to possibly remove something. Just remember that even though you are actually cleaning the glass cover on the sensor stack, you still need to use care. If you have a nearby local camera shop, even though they are becoming a rarity, you can ask if they have a tech that can look at the X-E3 and see if the sensor needs cleaning and what the charge would be. I have seen people say that things can actually get under parts of the sensor stack and that definitely means a replacement of the entire sensor. I've seen photos of some sensors and basically you have a circuit board with the sensor on it, then the CFA followed by the various filters and finally the glass cover.

Thanks, I'll call into some camera shops here in Van BC. see if anyone can check it out

I would press the drive button on the xe3 and check if you might have accidentally engaged an advanced filter.

A clean sensor is a happy sensor, but there is no way that a dirty sensor is causing this vignetting. Try doing a complete reset of your camera to factory default settings and try again. Post the RAW or a full size SOOC jpeg.

Good call, entirely likely.

That's probably the issue. The "toy" filters modes are useless for me, but gave me some unwanted surprise as the OP is experiencing.
