What are the photoshop export settings for getting super clear images on instagram? I've watched quite a few tutorials now and still have gotten no where.

I've tried exporting JPEG at the highest quality, cropping the image to 4:5 with a width of 1080px, as well as doubling the width to 2160 pixels. Yet I still get completely blurry pictures. Are there any additional steps that I'm missing?

I'm not sure if it's the photo's problem or the export settings. Below is the original image.

I suspect that the problem is the file size (in bytes, not pixels) of the image that you are exporting. Instagram probably downsizes it using a quick and dirty routine and that affects the quality.

Try reducing the quality setting until your output file is about 100kb and see if that works better.

I dont use Photoshop, but a 1080x 1080 jpeg always works fine for me. I email it to myself, open it on my phone, and do final tweaks to it on Pixlr ( I figure most people look at Instagram on phones or small tablets, so I fix it for the small screen), and upload it from there.

For best results on Instagram, the image file must be exactly 1080 pixels wide, and with a height of no less than 566 pixels, and no more than 1350 pixels. The maximum image file size is 30 megabytes, which is quite generous, and there is no practical way to exceed this if you keep it within the pixel dimensions stated.

Portrait orientation images will have more megapixels and so will have more detail than landscape orientation images.

When you resize the image, add sharpening afterwards, adding visible crispness if needed, without adding soo much sharpness to leave visible artifacts.

What software are you using to resize the images? That can matter a lot, as some downsampling apps produce soft results.
