Much faster focusing than the XF 35 1.4 and great colour rendition

I used to have the Fujifilm XF 35mm F1.4 and although a good, sharp lens, it was often slow to focus, especially in low light. In the end, I sold it and stuck with my 16-55mm f2.8 zoom to cover that focal length, as it was much quicker and more accurate on focusing. I recently decided to bite the bullet and go for the Tokina 33mm f1.4, in order to get the wider aperture, as I had seen some very good comments about it and images from it, mostly from people in the US who were using it before it was generally available here in the UK.

This lens is in my opinion top notch and I cannot find fault with it. One thing that both I and my wife noticed straight away was just how punchy the colours were from it, with great contrast. It also comes with a magnetic filter in the box, which is useful to protect the front element if you are going to use it in a dusty environment.

Focusing is fast and accurate on both my X-T3 and X-T1. Bokeh is nice too, so I am VERY happy with this lens purchase.

I wanted to add a 33mm to use with my X-T2 and X-Pro2 and narrowed the choice down to the Fuji 33mm f1.4 or the Tokina atx-m 33mm f1.4. When a mint condition used copy of the Tokina 33mm, which is rare, became available, I grabbed it. So far, I only took it out with my X-t2 for a quick test drive while it was snowing and am very happy with the results.

Líbí se mi TOKINA ATX-M 33mm a 24mm, počkám na testy nového FUJINON XF 23mm F1.4 R WR a rozhodnu se.
Jaký je rozdíl ve výstupu s Tokina vs Viltrox?

I like the TOKINA ATX-M 33mm and 24mm, I will wait for the tests of the new FUJINON XF 23mm F1.4 R WR and decide.
What is the difference in output with the Tokina vs Viltrox?

Basically, it is the same lens that both Tokina and Viltrox purchase from an unnamed third party lens maker in China. The Tokina lens is licensed by Fujifilm and uses the same mount electronics as Fuji lenses, fully communicates with the camera using the camera's firmware corrections for CA, etc. The Viltrox lens has a small microUSB port in the base of the lens for firmware upgrades because their lens is not licensed by Fuji and they did their own reverse engineering to get the lenses to work on Fuji bodies. I had the Viltrox 23mm f1.4 and 33mm f1.4 to use with my X-pro2 and returned them back after a couple of weeks because while the autofocus seemed to work OK, most of my sooc jpegs had plenty of CA and vignetting, especially when shot wide open. This is the result of Viltrox's self engineering versus paying Fuji for a license and access to Fuji's Firmware like Tokina did.
