Here are the lenses.

Leica Elmarit-M 28mm f/2.8 ASPH. Lens is the perfect lens all around. Small, sharp and given really great reviews.

Leica Summaron-M 28mm f/5.6 Lens. Tiny, over priced lens with really great reviews.

Not really sure why the reviews are so good for it. It's slow and the reviewers seem to ignore the IQ.

All of that said, I really want that Summaron 5.6. It's a street lens and the size is a huge sale for me.

What do you think, am I making a huge mistake?

I am a hobbyist and bought the 50mm summarit 2.5 for the small size and focus tab.

I know the Summaron has a following, but I would go for the Elmarit. I just can't get my head around f5.6 as the widest aperture. After all the Elmarit is not a big lens, would still make a small package with an M Leica. The + 2 stops can come in handy, especially if you use ISO 800 vs 3200.

Every part of me wants that Summaron but you are right especially when it comes to shooting friends or family. If I want the experience I could always stop the lens down to 5.6.

Elmarit is more useful today and in the future. Size difference is negligible on M body. Two stops additional light is tremendous advantage.

I would go with the 2.8. My preference is for a faster lens.
