Welcome to the Weekly Image Thread

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT) and is open for submissions and discussions about images and processing techniques until the next Saturday, or the new thread is started. If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

With the exception of the pigeons i like your roof visitors Charlotte.

I hope your reno goes smoothly and quickly. I hope we never have to move again, although we have down-sized in the last three moves we seem to condensed even more chattels into ever smaller spaces.

I hope you were wearing steel toe caps Rich. My latest weapon is the pool leaf scoop with fully extended handle. If I rush at the house waving it they scatter; the neighbours think I'm having a Don Quixote episode.

Some very tasty looking fruit - well captured.

When I was about nine years old I ate some raspberries and the seed from one of the lobes got stuck in my left hand side saliva duct. It was intensely irritating and nothing would shift it. The irritation last ed about two weeks. Sixty years later the same saliva duct blocked and caused considerable pain - especially when the Doc said "Suck on a lemon - that will clear it". An X-ray showed an object the size of a bean lurking there; a surgeon cut it out and gave it to me in a bottle. When I got home I cracked open the chunk of calcium and found the raspberry seed in the centre.

It made its first faltering flight of about five metres to a tree.

The termites have been busy building a new nest - full marks for symmetry.

These are nice. You have so pretty birds. I don't mean YOU, I mean in AUS. :-)

Nice shots. Love that Olive Oriole.

The eggfly and termite nest are great, Dicky. But the oriole is stunning. Very nice photography, indeed. With its green complexion and red eyes I imagine it's from Melbourne. :-D

The mental picture of you running around with a 15 foot leaf scoop trying to catch em on the wing made me spit coffee. Thank you, laughs are scarce nowadays. Rich

Thanks Charlotte, we do live in a land blessed with interesting and beautiful flora and fauna.

Thanks Craig, they look a lot like the Figbird. Quite hard to get decent photos , they always seem to stay in deep shade.

Dicky.

Thanks Jim, I will try for a few more shots now I know where they are nesting.

Glad you had a good laugh Rich. I am afraid if the neighbours see me doing it too often there will be men in white coats knocking on the door. :-D

Dicky.

I hope the smog and Covid soon leave your neck of the woods and you can get out and about to capture some great shots of Autumn colours.

I had to grin when I red your comment on cars. A couple of years ago we traded the Boss's car (a Hyundai Accent) for the same reason - she had to be hauled out of the seat. She now drives a Mitsubishi ASX - much more accessible. I could even get my golf clubs in it if I needed to. :-D

Very true Andrew. Around the house we have little black ants; I spare as many as I can. They are the mortal enemy of termites. My enemy's enemy is my friend :-D

I'm a little disappointed in the OLY 17 f/1.8 too. The 17 f/1.2 is super sharp in images where I used it correctly.

They lose their leaves in a month. Remains to be seen but eventually, it's a goner. I'm pretty unhappy about this. I limbed up two Japanese Maples I love. I liked the way the lower limbs were at eye level when I stood on the deck. One is green the other purple. They reached out at each other at different levels creating an arch to walk under. Beautiful I thought but bending too low to walk along the path under them.

I love these trees for their color and the delicacy of their leaves. If you limb them up you can only see the bottom of the leaves when they are above you. Defeats the purpose of having them. Lots of trees are tall. None of them have leaves as beautiful. You have to be able to walk under them though when they stand next to a path. Cutting them hurt.

Thanks Dicky. You're right, it's a great place to live and we had the bonus of a wonderful summer this year.

Sorry about the pigeons. I didn't mean to drive you to drink.😊

Dave

Another great set Dicky, especially the Oriole. The variety of flora and fauna for you to photograph seems endless.

Dave

Thanks Dave, we are indeed blessed.
