Show us your film gear!

Here is the Minolta a friend gave me a few weeks ago. He thought film was no longer available. I still have to remove the bent filter, which is not all that clear.

The coolest Instamatic ever, the Kodak Instamatic 500. Schneider-Kreuznach 38mm f/2.8 lens, Compur leaf shutter, coupled Gossen lightmeter. What's not to like :-)

Well that camera is pretty cool, but I would argue t hat it was not the coolest Instamatic. What about the Kodak Reflex Instamatic with interchangeable lenses? Not only was the light meter coupled in aperture priority mode but this was the only Retina Reflex with an instant return mirror.

You got me there ! I'd forgotten about the Instamatic Reflex. That is on my list to get when I see a working one for a sensible price.

I'm not sure how usable a fully automatic camera is today now that I have to rerate all my 126 cartridges to 50ASA to make up for the 20 yrs they've been in storage. We really need some new fresh 126 film so these can be used again - reloads with 35mm is not the same !

I purchased the one in the photo on ebay for around $25. Of course it doesn't work. I just bought it to put on a shelf with all of the other Retina Reflex cameras that I have. I have the original Reflex, the Reflex S, the Reflex III and the Reflex IV. I also have the Retina IIIS that uses the same lenses but is not a reflex but has a rangefinder. Both the IV and the IIIS work sorted of. I have toyed with the idea of getting them fixed, but the cost for each would probably be at least $250 USD.

By the way there was also a Ricoh 126 Flex with interchangeable lenses and a leaf shutter. And even a Contaflex 126 slr with a focal plane shutter and interchangeable lenses. I don't think either of these sold very well.

The estate of George Eastman, if it still exists, thanks you!

Of course, we have to really thank Dr. Nagel:

I've had a number of Retina 35mm folders and 9x12 (and even 10x15) folding plate cameras.

Curious. Anyone out there have a Voigtlander Prominent 35mm RF 1st version with the 50mm Nokton lens. One of those cameras, I am sorry to have ever sold.

One of a handful on eBay.

Which Retina folding cameras? I have a IIa that my brother and I bought used maybe 50 years ago.

Depending on why your Reflex. isn’t working there’s a fix on Flickr for the battery - https://live-fts.flickr.com/groups/1227372@N20/discuss/72157693494284501/

I’ve owned a Retina Reflex for a while but didn’t like non auto return mirror, and also it’s a big heavy camera. I’ve owned about 20 Retinas (mostly folders) over the years and at one point had a collection of 16 (all working) but I’ve sold most of them now. My favourite is the 1a. ( https://www.kenrockwell.com/kodak/retina-1a.htm ) because it’s modern enough to have a film wind lever, but small enough to fit in your jeans pocket.

I hadn’t seen those two 126 cameras but the look quite nice, unlike the Rolleiflex SL26 ( https://camerapedia.fandom.com/wiki/Rolleiflex_SL26 ) which must be one of the ugliest cameras ever made. Totally unlike the A26 which is like a massive Minox ( https://vintagecameralab.com/rollei-a26/ )

The 126 I use the most is the Minolta Autopak 700, it’s not as cool as the Kodak 500 but the rangefinder is very useful - http://camera-wiki.org/wiki/Minolta_Autopak_700
