The back screen on my Sony RX100 iii fell off and the cable broke so I can't just put it back on. I went to a few phone and computer repair places and they said that they can't order the LCD screen from Sony.

I see some online for about $20 and they said if I brought the part in they could attempt to repair it.

As long as I'm putting a new LCD screen do I need to get one for the RX100 iii or could I put a screen from one of the newer models? I thought maybe it would be easier to find and they could order it and also it might be an improvement.

Has anyone attempted the replacement? Should it be simple for someone at one of these places to do? Doesn't seem like they have any experience with it and I'm not sure about attempting it myself.

It would probably need to be from the M3-M5. The M6/7 have a different assembly.

I wouldn't fool around unless I had a definitive answer from Sony or an expert.

Get the m3 version even if you have to wait or pay a bit more.

IF the lcd has scuffs, great, helps you get a good buy, then you will remove the scuffed plastic film, virgin glass below, and add a screen protector like this

Even if it might work, why risk it?

They changed the lcd type along the line, meaning the ribbon might differ as well.

Simply order the part which is compatible with your camera.

The newer screens suck anyway for some reason, the M3 screen is just fine. At least it works with polarised sunglasses!
