I picked up this flash along with my A6400, my first e mount body. My only complaint with the flash is the very tight fit on shoe, it’s quite difficult to get on or off. Does anyone have tips on making this process a bit easier?

Ok, dumb question: Do you know about the disk part of the flash that you rotate to lock it on? Aka part of the flash that you need to rotate. As you rotate it it moves away from the camera to make it slide on/off and rotates towards the camera to lock on the camera.

I have a different Godox flash and it goes on/off my a6000 easy as long as I rotate the disk. My old Canon flash also goes on/off my a6000 without an issue as long as I rotate its lock disk.

i think i remember feeling that the 350 was a bit tight too compared to the 685 when i got them. its not the case anymore, i guess it loosens (erodes) up over time

Yeah, definitely aware of that but thanks for checking. Even without locking the ring down the flash is very tight on the shoe. I have seen others comment on this but not much in the way of suggestions for addressing it. This thread mentions it, for instance:

It does seem odd to me because getting the mechanical fit to the shoe correct seems easy compared to TTL with the camera and other features..

That’s good to know, maybe it will resolve over time for me as well.

This is the first flash gun (which might itself be ab outdated term) I've had in decades, so not much to compare, but, a6500 and... I find it, Hmmm, not just tight, but a bit awkward to fit. The more hurry, the longer it takes!

Yeah, same with the a6400. I'm going to leave it on the body for several days and see if things loosen up at all.

Here’s another report of this issue:

I also have a RX10M4 and getting the godox on and off that body is pretty easy. But the A6400 is a very tight fit in comparison.
Which would you rather have, a tight fit, or a loose fit? My first Sony camera was a NEX 5T (still have it), and the lens mount was very loose with all my lenses. When I upgraded to the a6300, I thought it was a very tight fit with all my lenses. After thinking about it, I was glad my lenses fit more securely.

IMO, I would think you would be happy your flash has a tight fit, but YMMV.

The issue is the amount of force one has to apply to remove the flash. And tightening the ring isn't even needed, the flash is on there so firmly.

I also have the a6400 and have noticed the same. I tried several flashes but all are very hard to get on and off the camera. I am worried all the time i will either break the flash or damage the camera when putting a flash on or taking it off.

Hmmm... Tight, I guess.

Especially as the contacts are on the bottom of the foot, and the tensioning ring pulls the foot upwards. I don't want a floppy flash, but loose connections would be worse.

Again, speaking a6500 (a6600 dimensions may differ as there is no built-in flash) I guess it is as much an awkward fit as tight. It is too close to the eyecup.

This flash is well known for being very tight and for people breaking the foot when trying to remove it. You can buy replacement feet on ebay but that is a pain. I don't know, maybe some wax or WD-40?
