Hi everyone,

If I am opening up Lightroom and DaVinci Resolve at the same time would it be ok to use 8GB RAM?

It depends how patient you are.

Just keep repeating the mantra: the M1 is the fastest CPU in the world.

"It depends how patient you are" is probably your best answer.

See this thread from two months ago. I do not recommend 8GB for your uses. Furthermore the M1 processor will be slow to render video compared to RTX 3060 or similar.

Sorry, as you don't account for the codecs used your statement is blatantly false. Depending on the source and destination codec the M1 can and will be massively faster than any discrete graphics card!

Even the RTX 2060 (let alone 3060) is twice as fast as M1 at DaVinci rendering. It looks like something is wrong with Premier Pro support for M1 and/or MacOS.

That test is not accounting for the source codec. Depending on that source material you need to render a half or quarter size proxy to have smooth playback while editing on the high end graphics card while you can use the source material without a proxy on the M1…

I wouldn't recommend ANY m-series Mac unless it has 16gb of RAM (or perhaps more when the mx Macs come out a little later this year)...
