On another forum someone posted this link to some free plug-ins. I suppose Photoshop plug-ins.

Google Nik Collection 1.2.11

Download 7 powerful photo editing plug-ins designed for amateur and professional photographers for free. Analog Efex Pro, Color Efex Pro, Silver Efex Pro, Viveza, HDR Efex Pro, Sharpener Pro, and Dfine.

I haven't downloaded it, but some people here may be interested.
There is also a download link for the older Google Nik plug ins on DXO's website. Robin Whalley has the link on his website and some excellent free Nik tutorials text and video. Like this one:

Or his excellent video using the soft contrast slider iso contrast slider and using the dynamic brightness slider.

now nik software is offering 30% off, If it worth the upgrade from the free version. Now i have been playing around with it a bit. What other features do they offer in the new version?

As previously stated, this free version is now three (semi-)major versions old, but if the old version works with your hardware and software and you can't justify the price of the current version relative to the upgrades it gets you, then go for it and get the old, free version. But get it directly from DxO.
Although the download from DxO is free, when using NIK with PSE 18, I often get a drop down from DxO asking if I want to buy their updated version. Aside from the annoyance, the "old" NIK has been great for me.

It certainly worked well for me for years until a week or two ago. Photoshop automatically updated itself from 2022 to 2023 and Nik vanished. I tried to reinstall it but found that I no longer had the original installer file so I downloaded it again from original site. Whenever I tried to launch it I was redirected to the DoX site for purchasing the newest version.

I managed to get another installation file for the old, free, version and run it successfully. The Nik Collection appeared in the PS 2022 version but NOT in the newest, 2023 version.

I went back to the 2022 version and tried to use the Viveza and Color effects filters. Although their working spaces showed up as usual they were not saved to the PS file. PS acted as if they had. For example, Ctrl-z asked if I wanted to undo Color Effects even though the modifications made in Color Effects had not registered in the PS document. Prior to PS upgrading to 2023 they had worked fine. It's weird since I'm still just using PS 2022.

I hope someone can suggest a workaround. I only use Nik for the Viveza 2 control points. I don't really need anything else in the suite since I'm a digital painter, not a photographer.

I had a heck of a time getting it installed in PS2023. Really probably worth buying if you use it a lot. I very rarely use it but like to have it around. Keep in mind, this is like installing PS 6 (not CS 6). DXO has made many significant changes.

My recollection is that I ran the exe file and made sure it went to: Program Files>Adobe>Adobe Photoshop2023>Plug-Ins

Good luck, I messed with it for quite a while installing it and reinstalling it in different places. Again, if this is something you use often, even just one component, you might consider buying the latest version.
