Are there any X-E4 owners out there that can shed some light on my experience with this camera. It has the latest firmware. My issues are.

can’t save custom settings . Always goes back to default. There is a work around but it’s not how it should be.

evf and lcd displays still to dull looking even when set too maximum

displays very slow to keep up with changes in light levels And I mean very slow !

Appreciate any advice. Previous Fuji owned include X-E1 X-E2 X-pro2 x-T2 X70.

My advice would be to get a refund.

Forgot to mention that also, when I flip up lcd for waist level viewing. The image turns upside down

HI

I bought the camera the first time and had ordered it on when it became available for sale

The first time I ordered with the 27mm lens and found a few things:

A. the focus peaking was off and not accurate. I own the Fuji xm-1, xt-1, x100f, xt-20, and x100v and focusing peaking on all of these cameras works marvelously well.

I have extensive experience with Fuji and never had a problem.

B. The battery door was very stiff and felt cheap

C. The image quality definitely look inferior to my x100v and xt-20 even ( how can that be if the same processor in the x100v?} However, it was inferior.

D. The 27mm mk II made a little bit more noise in the focusing action than the 27mm Ml1 ( I obviously wanted the Mk ii for the aperture ring).

So then I continued to see reviews lauding how wonderful the camera was so I thought was I just unfortunate and got a bad copy. But after reordering this was not the case.

The second copy the focus peaking worked very well however the lcd screen when I pulled it out flipped. Whether it was in LCD mode or LCD + eye didn't matter. I shoot a lot of street and this was unacceptable. I cant sit there and play around with the screen before I shoot it has to work correctly and immediately for me

I was willing to accept a less premium feel of the camera as compared to the x100v but the finicky lcd screen was too much for me. I returned it and use my x100v for street and my xt-20 when I want a different focal length

I think we will see more and more issues with this camera come to the surface

I returned mine and will not to reorder again unless they come out with the Fuji xe 4s or an x100v ic camera or something similar. I love the xpro 3 but too large and I like only the flip screen since I do not shoot video. This camera I think has too many issues for my taste.

If something is wrong for you, you will be happier by returning and not regret it when the return date has passed.

Hi?

What custom functions you are referring to?

I have not used flip option of lcd once, I guess I wonct at all. Brightness and sharpness of lcd looks fine to me.

My copy is fine, I'd say.

Good advice!

A. I have an X-E4 with v1.01 firmware. Never had this problem with focus peaking.

B. Battery door is mechanically perfect on mine.

C. I did not see any issues with image quality. My other high end Fuji is an X-T3. I can't really tell the difference.

A,B, and C suggest to me that the Fuji camera box is not offering enough shipping protection to the camera! I guess I just got lucky and maybe B&H packed it properly too.

D. Never owned the older lens, but mine seems fine. Yes there is a slight focusing noise.

LCD screen flipping: Manual is explicit on how to avoid this but if you shoot with folded out screen (like a Rolleiflex waist-level viewer) with camera closer than 6 inches to your body, screen will flip. It's a problem that Fuji needs to fix with a new screen menu item, I think. Also, sensitivity to this problem seems to depend on variations in sensitivity of the eye sensor. My X-E4 seems fine this way, but I don't often flip out the screen at all.

Dull displays in EVF and LCD: I've seen this. Usually if I try to look at the EVF with the lens cover on, I get a dim EVF. Not sure where the ambient light sensor is on this X-E4 camera but it is possible to change the brightness setting from "auto" to "manual". If you do, it might behave better for you. I have not found this issue to be annoying though.

Problem with custom: I have not had this problem. Storage of custom setups seems ok.

Again, I think your advice to the OP to get rid of the camera is good advice! I'm starting to believe the X-E4 is not for just anyone, and many users with extensive Fuji experience seem to find it troublesome.

ummm, that's a big deal haha. This is how you shoot from the hip...

Yes, this is how most people do it!

This is why Fuji needs to fix it with a menu option to disable "selfie" mode or "Vlog" mode.

At the moment, whenever the LCD is moved out of its storage position the eye sensor comes on so that when the LCD is flipped up for selfie mode the eye sensor will cause the LCD image to turn upside down. At the moment there is no way to disable the eye sensor under these conditions.

What's needed is a display menu item to disable selfie mode, so that the eye sensor is always turned off and the LCD image cannot flip upside down. This would require a firmware update.

I agree Tom. It could be disabled I would buy it for the third time

my XE4 is a year old. it has already once gone back for lcd change, and now in the middle of a very important family members wedding the evf stopped working. i tried to clean the sensor, reset the camera, but it would not work. now it has gone back the second time in 6 months.

i also notice camera heating issues when shooting videos. have had a high temperature message shooting at 18Degs Cel.

this is my first fuji/ mirrorless. my other body is a NIKON D800 and i realise now more than ever, that this is absolutely a tank of a camera even after 10 years.

i take very very good care of my equipment, but i also shoot a lot , but is that not what a full time camera is meant to do ? why not buy an iphone if the body will keep falling apart and heating up. plus the battery life is absolutely rubbish, you need to carry a couple of spares ones and the chargers so the portability is lost too.

the picture quality again is passable in low light and is smudgy when you zoom in, even at 1000ISO, the older tank usually operates at 1600ISO flawlessly.

i would say the XE4 is more of a hobbyist camera.

Sorry to hear about your xe4 issues. The issues imho were due to it being poorly made.

I have the old Fuji xe2s still works like brand new and even an XM1 from 2013 impeccable

Hobbyist camera is a term invented by the industry to sell more cameras.

I have seen people shoot with the Fuji gfx 100 and take lousy pictures and other shoot with the old Fuji xt1 impeccable results

Marketing is very effective in creating a need. I bought the Fuji xe-4 not for a need to take better photos because I wanted a second body for the street

Maybe if one needs to see the details in a fly's wing you may need such a camera.

Eisenstadt shot one of his most famous photos in Greece at the Parthenon with a point and shoot camera borrowed from a waiter. The rest is commentary

Sorry to hear. The one thing I’ve noticed is that the eye sensor is incredibly sensitive to dust and smudges. This usually results in the LCD not working. And it takes a good bit of effort to clean it. But sounds like you have the reverse problem. Good luck!
