With the recent reports of Sony discontinuing A-mount, it was noted on forums that the difference between countries where quite large and different A-mount bodys where still on some countries Sony sites, but not on others.

This lead me to wonder how the situation looks for the E-mount fullframe bodys all over the world?

Here in Sweden I can't find the A7RmkI any longer at the official Sony.se site, but all other bodys are there. When I look at our Pricerunner site, I noted that very few dealers carry the A7mkI, A7SmkI and A7SII. Also for the A7RIII and A7RIV it looks like most dealers still have the non a-update in stock.

So how does it look in your country regarding this? Both at the official Sony site and also what does the dealers carry in their normal catalogue?

Below a list with all fullframe E-mount bodys Sony has made sofar:
A7mkI
A7II
A7III
A7RmkI
A7RII
A7RIII
A7RIIIa
A7RIV
A7RIVa
A7SmkI
A7SII
A7SIII
A7C
A9mkI
A9II
A1

Thanks for the help and best regards from Sweden!

Mirrorless, mirrorless on the wall, say which is the best camera of them all?
When I put my camera in Manual mode, why don't I get any instructions?

I have noticed that the A7R Mark I has disappeared, and the A models of the A7R III and A7R IV appear to have replaced the earlier ones (although the non-A models are still on their web site).

Hm, the A9mkI was a surprise that it is missing and I wonder if the death of it is a little exaggerated? :-) That since I can find it on the link you gave and it also has its own page: https://electronics.sony.com/imaging/interchangeable-lens-cameras/full-frame/p/ilce9-b
Or do I miss something?

The others are in line with how it looks here in Sweden. Sony.se only has pulled the A7RmkI off their site, but the A7mkI, A7SmkI and A7SII very few dealers carry, basically the large serious ones don't have them which is a sign that they are on their way out.

The A7RIIIa and A7RIVa are on the sony.se site, but haven't even gotten any price yet, so I guess that only the non a versions are available here in Sweden.

Thank you! Interesting, the Sony A7RII is on Sony.se and all major photo stores still carry it here in Sweden.

The rest on your list seem to be going to the same fate here.

I re-checked, and the two I can’t see on my local Sony site are the original A7R and A7S. Everything else is listed, although a few have “price unavailable” (including the A1).

I did an update to the the list over all mirrorless autofocus fullframe bodys I post from time to time. Now it includes the discontinuing info from this thread (thanks to all that reported!).

Please let me know of any found errors in the list and other info.

Bodys with yellow background are on alert for discontinuing. The ones with red text on several markets and in black text only one known market sofar.

All in all we can conclude that the first and second generation bodys now seems to slowly disappear.

That can also mean (my speculation) that Sony will close the Playmemories camera app store at some point.

In Canada the A7, A7sand A9 all return a '404 page not found' error when you click the buy now option. This is the same result as the A mount APS-C cameras so it's not clear if they are discontinued. I'd assume this does indicate discontinued in Canada.

Th A7M2, A7RM2, A7SM2 and A7R all list as sold out when looking at the buy now option. This is the same as the a99II.

As of typing this all the Sony FF cameras appear on the sony.ca website with prices listed. No real clarity here unfortunately.

When I go to sony.ca and choose English as language I find the A9mkI side with price and all without problems: a9 35mm Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera with CMOS Sensor | ILCE-9 | Sony CA

I actually also find all the others including the A7R, which is one that is lacking in almost all other markets.

When I click the "buy now" button I don't get any meaningful answer since it checks for Sweden then so I can't verify your results on that from here.

Do you have any "Pricerunner" like sites in Canada that lists price and availability of stuff? A check there can in that case tell if the Photo shops carry these models or not.

We do have shopbot.ca but I've never found it useful. Sony Canada just seems to be slow in updating their website.

I haven't seen the first generation FF cameras listed for sale at retail websites for some time. The 2nd generation cameras are listed as special order now on retail websites. The exception here is the A7SM2 which I haven't found listed at all on the bigger Canadian websites. The A9 is listed as special order as well.

Just a general add on comment: It seems that the whole photo industry is purging out inventory and slimming down product lines.

Sony is clearly phasing out the first generation E-mount bodys and also the second generation. Thanks for all the reports from different corners of the world! Please keep them coming if you have info from a region that isn't covered in the comments yet!

I found that Sony also purges at least one APS-C body: https://photorumors.com/2021/05/11/the-sony-a6500-camera-is-now-discontinued/#more-137005

And A-mount goes away from being sold now: https://www.dpreview.com/news/67284...ing-dslrs-suggest-the-a-mount-is-all-but-dead

But Sony is far from alone in this.

Nikon seems to be ending APS-C F-mount DSLRs and even lenses: https://petapixel.com/2021/05/10/nikon-dx-dslrs-and-lenses-disappearing-or-not-being-restocked/

Also Nikon is starting to purge out fullframe F-mount DSLR-lenses: https://petapixel.com/2021/05/12/nikon-has-discontinued-several-f-mount-lenses-report/

And Canon ends a lot of DSLR EF-mount lenses at the moment: https://www.canonrumors.com/recently-discontinued-ef-lenses/

So this purging and slimming is an ongoing trend it seems and it is happening quite fast among all manufacturers.

The only one that seems to be discontinued on my national Sony site is the Sony A7r

A7, A7ii, A7iii

A7rii, A7riii, A7riv

A7s, A7sii, A7siii

A9, A9ii

A1

I think the logic explanation is that they only run the latest 3 generations, meaning A7 will be discontinued when Sony Launch the A7iv

Thanks! I couldn't figure out which country you checked in?

The A7R is gone in almost all, or even all markets. In Japan, also the A7RII seems to have been discontinued.

And the A7 is missing in many markets, but the A7II seems to be there.

A7S and A7II is also missing in many markets.

Even the A9 is missing in Canada.

So that 3 generations rule you mention is not valid for all markets it seems, that doesn't say that they don't aim for such a rule as a general guideline and then discontinue what doesn't sell on a particular local market.

With all this confused outlook, what would be the difference between the A7RIII and the "updated" A7RIIIA?

Thanks,

Lucas

A7RIII 800x600 rear screen

A7RIIIA 1024x768 rear screen

Different firmware--EXIF shows the camera model with the -A on the end.

I think they upped the USB-C port as well to a later standard. But in all the differences are rather small. Same goes for the A7RIV -> A7RIVA update.

The USB is just new labeling. It is the same slowest initial USB 3.0 - 5 gigabits per second speed:

USB 3.0 SuperSpeed -> USB 3.1 Gen 1 -> USB 3.2 Gen 1 x 1
