I was planning on getting the X-E4 as a small second ILC to my X-T3, then came across a local store offering surprisingly a brand new X-pro2 for only $799 (plus tax.) That's a hundred dollars cheaper than the X-E4.

The E4 is more pocketable and supposedly has a snappier AF, in addition to a few new film sims and a foldable display.

The Pro2 is WR, has dual card slots, 6 custom buttons, great EVF and OVF. But on the cons side, is bigger, heavier, and has a fixed display.

The E4 is a preorder and will probably be a few weeks wait, while the Pro2 is readily available.

So the question is: which one would you get if you were in my shoes and why?

The X-Pro2's EVF cannot be accurately be characterized as "great" but is is likely on par with the XE-4 at 2.36 MP. I don't believe either model has EFCS to minimize shutter shock. Because of that I could not recommend either model. I would move on to the X-100V.

You have an x100v which you can use when compact size is important so the XE4 wont be compact with any lens other than the 27.

Goodbokeh, have you not yet noticed that you’re still literally the only person ever linking the X-Pro2 (a camera you’ve admitted never using, with a shutter you’ve never used) to shutter shock? 😂

OP, provided you’re not seeking out the minimalism and most compact nature of the XE4, the X-Pro2 is the better camera overall IMO.

Yeah. In four years of ownership I don’t think I ever noticed any shutter shock issues.

Thanks goodbokeh, I already have the X100V

Thanks threaded. I like how the Pro2 handles and looks, but am also drawn to the E4 faster AF.

Spot on. It could certainly be just a GAS episode. But I do prefer to have a second ILC. I will get the 27 at some point, plus the 14 and 60.
I have those lenses, and an X-Pro-1, and I would suggest the 35 1.4 instead of the 27. It is a great lens for the X-Pro, or any of the Fujis for that matter. I like the 27, but it rarely gets uses. On the other hand, the 35 1.4 is the lens that is most on the camera.

I do have the 35/1.4, besides the 16/1.4 and 90.

What function does the Pro2 not have that the E4 would make a big difference for your style of shooting?

Nothing really. Probably just the small size.
Save your money for something else. Do you need a tripod or lens? Or just save the money for the future.

You cant go wrong with either. The XE4 will provide more features and better video. I think it may be a better companion to the XT3.

If ergonomics is your main priority the Xpro2 will do you better.

Thats gone once you add a larger lens. To put it in perspective, I had the X-Pro2 and X-E3 at the same time, and the X-E3/35f2 didn't feel more compact than the X-Pro2/27.

For second/third camera, I would go with XE4:

1. Same ( or very close) AF performance as the top of the line Fuji bodies.

2. Match the outputs of both XT3 and XE4 which have the same latest sensor.

3. More and newer Film Sims

4. Best back screen resolution which matches XT4 and Xpro3's. Flip-up and tilt down capability.

5. small size and light weight

6. 4K

Unless you like the style, size, WR and really want OVF experience ( If so, I would get a used X-pro3) ,Otherwise I don't see why you should get the X-pro2.

Great, then definitely get the 27.

Since OP already has an X100V, 27mm lens is kinda pointless...you can easily get that focal length using sports finder mode on the X100V...save your money 😉

What other lenses are you planning to use on this new camera? Your 16 & 90mm lenses are big although the 35mm f1.4 would be great on smaller bodies.

X-Pro2.

I owned a X-E3 and I seen a X-Pro2 used, so I picked it up. I never really was a fan of it, based on the size, coming from a X-E2.

I like it, got used to the size and sold the X-E3.

Dual card slots, optical vf, better build with weather sealing are the pros for the X-Pro2, but the newer engine, sensor and size (in my opinion) is the advantages of the X-E4 -Oh, I almost forgot, the flip screen.

You can't go wrong either way, it just all comes down to your use.
